Did Star Jones have weight loss surgery?

I never watch The View but happened by a TV this morning and noticed how thin she is.

Has she admitted to having weight-loss surgery?

Not a fan of hers, just curious.

I watch the View. I see nothing offensive about her, other that she carried on ridiculously about her wedding. I don't listen to gossip or indulge in it. If I don't see something about a person's character with my own eyes--and it's not a political issue, which this surely isn't--I don't believe it. And I'm certainly not going to pay attention to tabloids.

You know what I think all this Star Jones gossip is about? It's hostility toward women who don't conform to hegemonic body images appearing in the media. We saw it a few weeks ago with Candy Crowley. It's sexism, pure and simple.

Star Jones has publically berated atheists. She has called us immoral and untrustworthy. Basically the full range of insults we suffer from the more ignorant believers. She has offered no appology and has even publically stated she does not believe she owes anyone an appology. There has also been no public outcry about this except from atheists. She is a bit of a sore point for the atheist community. She represents the permissibility of discriminating against atheists that still exists within this society.

and I haven't seen it on this thread either, not that I've read all the posts. What I've heard: comments about her weight and charges she's homophobic and that her husband is gay. These last two would seem contradictory, but gossip is never rational.

Where did she make these atheists comments? Not on the View, though she has made clear that she is a strong believer, as nearly all African-Americans are. The importance of religion in African-American communities dating from slavery, through Civil Rights, and the president, is very strong.

Under no circumstances would I ever vote for an atheist because they are terrible and have no moral code.

That is an unfortunate comment.

I think, however, that the majority of gossip about her has nothing to do with that, since that is not what they discuss. I sill maintain that it's hostility against women who don't fit the TV image, similar to the hostility against Candy Crowley over other journalists. Hollywood is full of idiots, but women who are fat or otherwise don't conform to hegemonic ideals of femininity are subject to ridicule. I understand you have a valid reason for resenting her. But most of this gossip is nothing but sexist.

That once a person is singled out as reprehensible for some specific reason any characteristice they have that can be seen negatively become open targets. Thus Star Jones who happens to be a bigot towards atheists and possibly a shallow reporter gets targetted for her weight.

Her overly commercialized wedding further drew another part of her life into the public eye for ridicule. Of course this should not extend towards ridiculing her husband and his sexual identity.

My position is simply that of returning the behaviour she delivered to me and my fellow atheists back to her. Just as her professed beliefs would have me do. I take her at her word that she treats others as she wishes to be treated.

she's not a reporter. She's a TV personality. She has nothing to do with news of any kind. Apparently she does some red carpet stuff and the beginning of awards shows, which I have never seen. Her role on television is for entertainment only.

You don't need to like her. Obviously you have good reason not to. I don't especially like her myself, but I don't dislike her. I do believe that it's important, however, not to engage in gossip about the appearance of women. Those kind of comments are hurtful to all women, not just Star Jones. On DU, Ann Coulter is subject to ridicule--not just for her ideas--but because she is aggressive and behaves in ways that men find threatening. Hence they call her Man Coulter. Because she is opinionated and acerbic, she cannot be a woman. After the inauguration, I saw threads about the size of Laura Bush's ass. Those who make those comments defend themselves by saying she deserves it since she's married to W. The issue is not whether she deserves criticism, but whether it is appropriate to engage in misogynist discourse that degrades all women. Women of course do this as well, some in a bid for male approval. Many women, and certainly feminists, find this kind of discourse highly offensive. I have no objection to anyone raising criticisms about any public figure, but ridicule of the appearance of women or attacks on their very womanhood is part of a culture that seeks to disempower women by presenting them as objects of male desire or repulsion rather than according to their professional abilities.

Star Jones, hubby Al Reynolds and their entourage reportedly plunked down in seats reserved for another ticket-holder's family at the Tribeca Film Festival's "Muppets' Wizard of Oz" screening the other night, and refused to give them up. (Page Six)

She has a habit of being RUDE with a capital R to the 'little people' and people who can't advance her. I don't care if she has a history of religion through the history of her people. She dissed atheists. That is unacceptable. If dissing fat isn't allowed, dissing someone's personal beliefs about religion should be banned too.

...provides clues into the ways that famous people live their lives. Stories like that show me that Star Jones is a phony who is beneath contempt.

I find nothing admirable in the woman. Not because she's a woman - not because of her size - not because of her choice of a mate - simply because of her actions as a person.

Gee, it couldn't possibly be that her overinflated ego is even bigger than her butt!

It couldn't possibly be that the woman takes her 'name' way too seriously and that her wallowing in the mud of self-glorification has been one of the funniest stunts to watch in decades; or that her self-pimping to attempt to make herself into someone of import and worth regarding has totally fallen apart.

And I won't even get into the layers of back fat pouching out over her dress as she'd run screaming after 'celeb's on the Oscar red carpet who were tripping over themselves to stay as far off camera with her as possible....

Her contract is up with the View and it won't be renewed. She's out of work very soon.

guy fired at a hotel because he tried to help her avoid the press by taking her through another door, but the press got to her anyway. Geez, she should be glad that the press even care about her. I think she is a very nasty person. On her bio, she hardly had any friends to talk about her. Only some legal collegues. Anyway, you are right, she is a big phoney......

me is the kind of personality that can be so mean to others the way she is and not feel an SCRAP of shame. That fascinates me a bit, I will admit. Star Jones is a terrible person in the way she deals with others. I have never read good things about her and the times I've seen her, she was very snide about someone under discussion, very petty. That she doesn't feel any sense of embarrassment is amazing.

She is horrible on the View, constantly wheezing and reminding everyone that "as a lawyer..." blah blah blah. She's a wretched person, and a fauning douche bag on that E! show.

That show should just be called women's brain liquification daily.

I saw a promo this morning that the Korean chick from Lost would be co-hosting, so I checked the beginning out. As soon as I realized that that chick was a fan of the show and just as interested in only discussing The Apprentice, American Idol, and the Jackson trial as the only "news" worth caring about I had to turn it off with my image of that actress completely crushed

that if she had WLS and/or if her husband is gay that isn't important? If anyone wants a real reason to hate her read up on her views about atheists.

I go with the assumption that people treat others the way they want to be treated. She has publically stated she believes atheists are evil and immoral people so I take that as a cue as to how she wants to be treated.
