Anyone here an eye exam survivor?

They sat me in a chair, and took my glasses away.

Then they demanded that I read aloud to them from some dots on a distant wall that they implied were letters of a known alphabet.

Their scorn was palpable, their suppressed guffaws clearly audible, as the chair suddenly rose from the floor.

Oh! the drops! So COLD!

And then came the little light. Look this way, they said, look that way. Never were they satisfied.

And then an ominous whir, and cold hard metal within centimeters of my cheek. Lens after lens after lens, flip flip flip.

They could not let go of their obsession with those distant dots.

I could not see, but I could feel their eyes meet, twinkle. whirrr.

FLIP!

Somehow, they had done something to the wall.

I could stand no more.

"E!" I shouted. whirr, flip

"F! P!" whirr, flip flip

"T O Z"

At last, I had placated them. It was over. I put on a pair of plastic sunglasses and felt my way gingerly across the hall, in my hand a small paper.

Someone took it. a hand, I think.

I know without a doubt I heard a snort.

You know when you have your face against that contraption and they barely place that purple light on your eye?? Argh!! I blink and wince and squirm every time! I can't stand it! I'm always expecting something to shoot out of that thing into my eye!!
