I hope that was supposed to be a joke . . . .
A local TV station is advertising an old western movie "Nevada Smith".

They speak the tagline "The best way to turn a boy into a man is to kill his mother and father . . . . a heartwarming coming of age story."

WHAT THE FUCK????

2. What do you expect in the age of bu$h?
Compassion? Get real.
Death and dying is fun when you are not the one doing it.

aside from some really perverse and lame assed interpretation of Joseph Campbell's "Hero's Journey" wherein he says classical heroes are often fatherless (if not orphans) who are deeply compelled to seek to strive far beyond their circumstances of birth, I can't imagine what the heck they were on about.

Ahhh. . .to my knowledge, none of Campbell's heroes mythic or real were ever guilty of matricide or patricide though.

Sincerely doubt the reference was anything that arcane though.

Just amazingly bad copy in unbelievably poor taste.

Or. . . could it possibly be yet another wondrous expression of our most heartwarming and ever inspiring "culture of life. . . ?"

You know, the one that's comprised solely of gun toting, war mongering, death penalty advocates. . .They're all just so life affirming, I'm truly astonished.

Reminds me of an outrageously tacky marquee posted in front of a Fundie church in a neighboring town not long ago, "Christ. . .he hung in there for you." Ughhhhhh.
