My cable here at school is really pissing me off!
Granted I get to go home in 3 days but dammit I just want to lay in bed and watch some tv and every single channel is ridiculously fuzzy. I've called maintenance and the cable company. They'll come out a week after I call, look around and say there is nothing they can do, it was the way the building is wired. WTF??? These are brand new houses they JUST built them this year how the hell could they fuck up the cable that bad? It's so strange because every now and then the cable will clear up and all the channels are watchable (except VH1 thats fuzzy all over campus) but today is NOT one of those days. The only 2 channels that are clear enough to watch are EWTN and the Food Network. What the hell am I paying all this room and board money for?

2. It's so fucking rediculous...
I pay 3,000 a semester to live here and I can't even get clear television. I swear I'd get better reception with rabbit ears

6. I wish I could move off of campus...
but I don't get any federal aid if I move off campus, plus the university decided that they weren't going to triple anymore so all of those people who didn't get a housing assignment took up all the apartments within a 5 mile radius.

Yeah they really fucked us all over next year, but at least I got housing. It figures that my senior year they decide to change the lottery system where GPA and credits no longer figure into your lottery number so conceivably a Sophomore or Junior could get (and did get) better housing that me.

10. yeah it always used to be that way...
until this year. Right now I'm living in the new townhouses but they weren't finished at the beginning of this year so we were stuck living at a hotel or in my case on a friend's couch for the first month of school. Plus we had to put up with numerous glitches with the new housing such as the crappy cable, frozen pipes and the fact that all of them still aren't all built yet so we are all doubled up in bedrooms that are WAY too small for 2 people.

Despite all the bullshit we put up with this year we got no special considerations in where we get to live next year. So instead of getting back in the townhouses with our own rooms and all the glitches fixed our shitty random lottery number wasn't good enough so we are stuck with the crappy apartments and I STILL have to share a fucking room!!! 4 years and I still don't have an ounce of privacy. To make matters worse the girls that are going to have our house are only going to be juniors. So fuck them!

We got this place when we were juniors because the interest wasn't high enough in the first year but now everyone wants one, and we got screwed over so some juniors can have our place. GRRRRRRR!

I really enjoy it here but Res Life has screwed me over more times than I can count. Other than that it is not a bad place to go to school.

3. Tell them you want credit for all the time you have bad reception
Find the regulatory body for cable in your area (In Seattle, the city is the regulatory body) and complain to them. I had to, to get satisfaction.

They'll send techs out to check the connections and balk at doing any outdoor work.
The tech says "I'll have to write up a report so the line guys will come out."
A month later I call, "Where are the line guys?"
"We have no record. We need to schedule a tech to come out to check your connections."
"You did that last month, the month before and the month before that. It's OUTSIDE."
"That may be, ma'am, but a tech needs to come out, check your connections and write a recommendation..."
Argh. Comcast.
I had Seattle bust a foot off in their commodius ass.

5. We have Comcast here too
I can't stand that company. I have Cablevision at home which is less evil, but I only have 3 more days of school. But if this happens again next year, I am so going to be a major pain in their asses

8. The people on the phones at comcast
can't send out line techs. And if they have no record, it's cause the tech that came to your house never actually followed through with setting it up. Your best bet is to get the techs number, and go to your local comcast outlet.

they do not ever follow through unless you put a giant flame to their asses. They just figure you'll get tired of it and go away.
They had plenty of records of techs that actually came to my place-months and months of it (Years, actually). Tech after tech. Probably 5 or so guys. Writing down their assessment of my stuff ("test-OK. check outside lines")

They chose to ignore it, assuming I'd give up, until I called this area's cable regulatory body, AND THEY made them fix the outdoor shit, and find the leaky connection in another apartment building that was f-ing up everyone's junk for ages.

So I had in my dinky apartment one morning, 2 people from the city, a Comcast supervisor, and three techs, and a fourth tech showing up an hour into the ordeal. This happened because when Comcast contacted me at the city's instruction, a supervisor called me, said I needed to be home so a tech could CHECK MY EFFING CONNECTIONS. I told her it had been done 3 weeks earlier, and she said "We need to do it again, because I CAN'T TRUST WHAT THOSE TECHS SAY." Great. So in addition to refusing to fulfill your contractual obligation to me, you're sending people to my place you can't trust? Sheeesh.

They just don't want to do it the right way, if they can get away with it.

17. Er
Working in a national call center, I know that line techs can't be scheduled over the phone, not by regular support agents. You said you called, and they told you they had no record of the line guys? That would usually be because the line techs were never sent out, or they didn't enter it in the system that the phone techs have access to.
Thats all I am referring to.

19. No
I would call. They would send out techs. the techs would look at my connections. the techs would test my equipment. They would say everything tested ok. They would write on the work order "Check OUTSIDE LINE" on it. The company would not follow through, until the city office contacted them.

They came out once a month for the first 5 months of 2003. Same report. No action outside. I had been calling them for a couple of years, sporadically before that. And scoring a tech visit to check and OK everything, and a recommendation that they check the lines outside my building, and in the hood, which were/are old. Like 20 years old.

I know the call people have no info-it's the layers above that fuck with the program-"Don't send line guys out per indoor tech recommendation-baby basic customer"

21. As far as I'm aware
it's up to the tech that visits your home to actually set up the line tech.

22. That's not how it went down here.
I was a $12 per month customer. The indoor guys and gals were telling me that they'd "pass this along to their supervisor" every time. I also got copies (the pink ones) of the work orders with the recommendation written on it. They simply refused to send the personnel to do the work. That's why the city was involved.

20. We could have tv, but it didn't do us much good
There was no cable in the rooms and the reception for local channels was poor. The colleges offficial position on cable in the room's was that it was an impediment to "community".
