1. I dunno, but in the latest book put out by the good people at
Disinformation.com, a book about drugs, they calim that it's almost totally impossible to score acid these days. Since the Dead stopped touring and ecstacy took over, LSD has pretty much diisappered from the US...even the jam bands on the road these days are more about N2O and X and weed than acid.

Which sucks, because just about every great cultural or political upheaval since WWII was preceded by an acid wave.

3. That's what the Disinfo article was about.
They were trying to find the reason behind LSD's absence.

There was a HUGE bust around 2001 or so, involving something like a whole tractor-trailer truck full of the stuff, but that CAN'T be the only reason.

There are various tin-foil theories floating about concerning the gov't's role in acid distribution, but I shan't go into those.

4. Just a guess, but...
could it be that acid just isn't profitable enough? Or popular with the instantaneous rush crowd?

It's not that easy to make, after all, and the days of free Sunshine just to turn the world on are long gone.

And, up to 10 hours or so from the time you drop till the time you can drive again doesn't fit in well with a lot of lifestyles any more.

7. Read an article in Slate about it
My understanding is LSD is REALLY hard to make. Just a few guys were making it and they all got busted. Plus the Dead thing was their national distribution network.

9. My theory
is that a lot of people are down on acid because of it's afer effects. I took a lot of acid back in the day and after a while it really started to get to me. I have always been prone to anxiety, but acid made me really paranoid. Now I take medication, and it is ok, but I really think the acid was a real bad idea.

I think the after effects of acid and people passing down warnings could be part of the reason LSD has been largely replaced by other hallucinogens. Psycilobin mushrooms for example.

11. For those who want to go into the US gov't and LSD connection
read Acid Dreams. An excellent, well researched, and somewhat disturbing book.

6. Sugar cubes are cheaper
I would have no idea why it would cost so much. How can they even get away with selling blotter paper? Usually when head shops sell things they put, "For tobacco use only" or something like that. What else can you use blotter paper for?

10. Blotting your ink?
Wasn't blotter paper for blotting excess ink off your signature back when people used fountain pens? Seems odd to me that a head shop would be selling it any more unless they have a display of fine writing instruments...

13. Yes, Dear, I am old enough to remember.
What makes it even more amazing is that I didn't kill off enough brain cells to forget, either! :)

I was being tongue in cheek there with my comment about "fine writing instruments." I used to have a buddy who carried a fountain pen around with him because if you took the writing point off it made a great straw for snorting--er--I better not go there. He used to call it his "fine writing instrument" and joke about slumming with Bic pens.

I guess maybe my humor was bit too local.
