Judge Orders Teen To Remove His Car Sound Equipment
<snip>

ALEXANDRIA, La. -- A judge has ordered a teenager who blasted his pickup truck stereo to remove all non-factory installed sound equipment for violating a noise ordinance.

Calvin Bennett Jr., 18, got the loud-music ticket in 2004 but missed his initial court appearance. Last Monday, he was arrested for contempt of court and spent the night in jail. He appeared Tuesday before district Judge Thomas Yeager on the loud-music citation.

The teen pleaded guilty, got a 90-day sentence suspended and was given probation. As a condition of probation, he had to turn in his drivers license for 30 days and remove his stereo equipment.

Yeager said he ordered the sentence to try to deter young adults from disturbing their communities with loud music. "It is a big problem but one that has a solution," he said.

The Pineville and Alexandria police departments stay busy fielding loud-music complaints. Both cities have ordinances addressing loud noise, including drivers playing their radios too loudly.

"The sentence isn't going to stop me playing music," Bennett said. "I love my music."

car drives by my house, it's one of the downsides of living down the road from a cheap college. That and the fuckers doing it always seem to be the ones driving nice and slow so everyone can share :eyes:

31. Where did DS1...
say anything about hip hop?

They said "base lines" -- in my neighborhood, the "base lines" I hear are from Latin music from my neighbor up the block. My Mom in Tahoe hears base lines from from her neighbor who plays Vietnamese music.

Clue: most popular music has "base lines".

50. Okay, but everybody knows that 97% of the time, it's "Gangsters' Paradise"
I find, more often than not, it's not exactly hip-hop, it's some ersatz Mariah Carey/En Vogue ripoff warbling all over some lightweight top-40 quasi-"urban" dreck.

No reflection on real hop-hop fans.

3. Its fine to love your music
But when the speakers are designed and positioned to throw more music outside the car than in... then we are talking a completely different matter.

I'm wondering what part of contempt of court does he fail to understand? I have cars drive down my street and wake me up sometimes. I'd like to shoot out their tires. IMO, there is no sane reason for people to inflict their choice of music on others.

11. his penalty should be to listen to someone else's music
at top volume for 72 hours. let a christian fundy grandma pick the music.

my teen neighbors had some friends in the driveway at 1:30am on a tuesday blasting bass all over the block. i finally got up and went outside, but they turned it down 2 seconds after my front door opened.

i want to pull those kids over and take away the volume control, then turn their baseball hats straight on their heads, pull up their pants, and make them speak decent english.

every teenager on my street thinks he's 50 Cent.

here in Cali. I have one tenant who just bought a pick-up truck with a modified sound system. He's 3 doors away from me and drove up the driveway bumping his music, parked and CONTINUED to play his music after parking. My walls & windows were rattling and the cats ran upstairs. Tenants from both sides of his place were calling me about the noise. I went outside and politely asked him to turn the music down because he was disturbing the tenants and his reponse was "if you don't want to hear it then, put some fucking cotton balls in your ears!".

This stupid fucker was already 3 weeks behind in his rent and I always worked with him giving him time to catch up when he was late but this time that ONE statement and the fact that he couldn't do a simple thing like turn his volume down prompted me to cancel his lease and evict his stupid ass.

It just would be nice if you would learn two little things:

1. You are not the only person on the planet.

2. Everyone around you is NOT looking after you with lust and admiration because you just shattered their windows and blew their eardrums.

I hate loud music. It never sounds good, either. I will never understand some people's fascination with loud bass. I will never understand why they waste all that money to put systems in their little cars or trucks and get rid of all the space they would otherwise have.

Plus it sounds like crap.

37. What about playing "Mosh" next to a "W" stickered car??
I have been known to do that, every so often. :)

I have a modified speaker system, but I only crank it on the open road. I turn it down at lights, and pulling into the neighborhood. I admit I also have a bit of a lead foot, but neighborhoods are not a place for that, either, and I don't cut people off.

I suppose I am unusual for a 33 year old woman...lol.

On my stock speakers, with my stock iPod, it usually downs out excess bass.... The lovely thing about horns is that they carry. (There's a reason they were used by pre-walkie-talkie armies to signal changes!!)

Most of the little darlings look at me funny. I like it that way.
