I'm flattered. :)

I think you should phrase the question a little more clearly... It takes a few clicks in the brain to decide whether to vote "yes" or "no". Like, "are THERE any ideas..."

8. But DISMISSAL requires DISCUSSION, so I voted 'NO' (in principle)
Some ideas are discussed solely for educational purposes; so everyone understands why they are worthy of dismissal.

11. Actually, I'd really like to know the answer to that one.
That would help me clear up a WHOOOOLE lot of other questions!

I think Blue-Jay has given us a hint: BAD squirrels spend eternity in meetings with THIS GUY:

6. The "Prag Open Door Policy(tm)" says No.
However, the treatment of the Idea Haver by me is directly
related to the sincerity with which said Idea is presented
to me.

You only get what you serve in my book.

14. As I've just been reminded, cats vs. dogs is one
Both pets are perfectly agreeable--it's really just a matter of personal preference. But for people hopelessly mired in attempting to prove the superiority of their pet, I guess this is one of life's great struggles.

Sexual taste can be very relative--your culture determines whether it is acceptable or not. It's definitely worth discussing if you believe something strongly about it one way or the other.

20. So was righteous wife-beating.
Is that worthy of discussion as well?

I guess I just think there are some absolutes. Those are two of them.

23. But it's not going on now... so why discuss it now?
Edited on Tue May-03-05 05:10 PM by redqueen
If it's already illegal... what makes it worthy of discussion?

Do you think there are absolutes? That's what prompted this thread... the idea that there are no absolutes... that every idea is worthy of discussing.

25. Do you mean right this second or right now in society?
because both of your not to be discussed subjects still occur in society. It being illegal didn't stop it.

27. True...
I guess what I meant was... are there some issues which are absolutely wrong, and require no discussion to debate whether or not they are.

I'm so bad at the internets. :(

The problem with taboo is that there is an ever wavering line.

It depends on who is posting and who is reading and if we're being mointored by post-911 goons.

When we start discussing being morally opposed to something there has to be a bar set on whose morals we'll be using.

(Can you imagine starting with Matcom's morals and moving down?)

So as I said, if you feel strongly about it, it's definitely worth discussing.
