Update on the dog/ death threat
at least we are all still alive and slightly traumatized after the Sunday and Monday incidence here. But the good news is we have a witness who is making a police report on the threatening letter. The prosecutor was supposed to look over the stuff today. The dog id still there and barking outside as we speak. One small victory anyway. Keep us all ...... dog included in you prayers.

Edited on Wed May-04-05 09:19 PM by shesemsmom
a terrible neighbor left her dog chained to a swing set ALL DAY and with no food or water. Then when the dog barked all day she got tired of it and instead of feeding the dog and watering him she beat him with a huge stick. I had the police and city catcher here and all they did was make her take the dog inside. I called county animal control and they went to speak with her about the beating and she got really ugly with them. She saw me on Sunday when she beat the dog and I pounded on the wall and looked put the window at her and ran out of the house after her and she got inside before I got to her.... probably a good thing. After the dog catcher left she came over and left a scary note in our door, which our teen-aged troubled daughter found after school. The police made a report and said, her word against ours. It has gone to the useless prosecutor. This am a neighbor told us she saw the note being put in the door. Thanks God we have a witness. Now we can proceed. Humane society is also involved trying to get the dog out of the house.... That is the basics.....

upon liberating a dog. You'd also be amazed at who comes forward to help a liberated dog. Call the ALF terrorists, but a good number of them...you and me.

33. Let me tell you the story....
Once upon a time, on DU, a woman expressed her anger and dismay concerning her neighbor who was cruel to a cute little lab puppy. The subject line (in the lounge) was "Should I steal my neighbor's dog?" Well I clicked on the link not knowing what to think. She told DU about how her neighbor yelled, kicked, underfed, and was just horrible to this little puppy. :(

Another DUer commented that if the dog was in the same city, then she would definitely take the dog if the DUer decided to rescue him. (obviously the DUer living next to the neighbor couldn't keep the dog). Well, fate chimed in and both DUers were in the same city. Days later, the exchange was made and the dog has been spoiled since. How do I know? Well, after explaining the situation to the vet, he told me that I could get Wellstone (the DU dog) chipped so that no one could prove he wasn't mine. He wasn't chipped or registered previously so no one can prove the dog was "forcefully rescued".

Wellstone is a big, lovable boy. He's extremely intelligent, sweet, and wonderful to my 5 yr old daughter. I couldn't ask for a better dog.
:)

good luck to you.

you are awesome. This too is a young black lab. I thought I saw him kick out the door about a month ago and now this. I hope some one saves him before he disappears like all of their others have. They are probably buried some where

39. That situation gave me a whole new outlook on DU
I hate to hear your story and I wish I was there to help. I recommend going to your DU state thread and ask for help there. Even if the DUers can't take in the sweet pup, they may know someone who can. If there aren't enough people on the state forum, then go to the lounge because there may be a DUer in a different state who has a friend or relative in the same city who would be interested. 6 degrees of separation, etc.

Worst case scenario, the DUer who asked if she should steal her neighbor's dog...well she didn't expect help from a DU either but was looking for any no-kill shelter in the area. Fortunately Austin has a no-kill shelter, but we all know that finding a good home is 100 times better. I don't know about the shelters in your city, but a no kill shelter would probably be far better than abuse.

And for what it's worth, the situation with me last year was absolutely incredible. :)

24. Stealing a dog from an abusive neighbor was actually a DU story...
last summer.

On a completely *cough* unrelated note, Wellstone the DU dog is doing great now for anyone who remembers the story. :D

I have a neighbor who is a nutcase and her sons are druggies. I'm afraid of them hurting my children, animals and property if we report their illegal activites.

Take care and we will be thinking of you. You did the right thing!

17. Good for you!
My neighbor's dogs a few years ago were mistreated and another neighbor called the police. Well, the nutcase neighbor automatically thought it was me who notified the authorities and took it out on me and threatened my children.

There are definately crazy/sick people out there. However, a dog is suffering and needs help. Thank goodness you are there. Stay strong!

20. In the past these people have
done damage to our home
their kids have disconnected out lights and used the electric box cover to slide down their side while I sat in the dark waiting for the electric company to come
disconnected my cable and shut off my water
The husband has threatened us all, on separate occations... including our teenager.... and promised to burn our house down.
Has had trash piled 8 feet high and 16 feet wide behind their home and when the heath inspector got involved HE was fired( mysterious) the guy drives drunk Habitual traffic offender and ran a sheriffs deputy off the road and almost killed him. They don't have enough to prosecute.....Yet is walking the streets
That is just the highlights....... so do you see any hope

23. Wow, they really are mean and cruel
I'm sorry. It's amazing that with all of that info, the police can't interfere.

We have a drug house next door (same nutcase neighbor) and the police wanted us to write down license plate numbers and video the "customers" coming in and out of the house. Well, um, I think that is their job. I shouldn't have to put myself at risk when there is such activity going on.

Sheesh! Are you able to move to a different area? It might make your life safer? Not to mention, your stress level would go back down to normal!

I don't know if it would help, but there are DUers all over the country. You could probably find one in your area who would be willing to call the cops so that it can't be traced to you and your children.
