Handypersons, please help "Mrs Oliver Wendell Douglas" yet again (cars)
From time to time, I post pathetic questions about surviving in suburbia and having to take care of a house. I am the "Lisa Douglas" Green Acres type, totally unused to this stuff, single, and living in a community far away from my friends in the life I had just a few years ago (I decided to be the home caregiver of my Alzheimer's stricken mother).

Today's pathetic question is: how can I deal with the peeling paint on my beloved car?

I LOVE my car. It's over 10 years old, and never required anything but routine maintenence, which is fairly miraculous. It is 100% dependable. I'm not the sort of person who likes to get new cars all the time -- I am extremely monogamous when it comes to cars. When I have a good car, it's a real "Til Death to Us Part" relationship.

But the damn paint is peeling -- maybe it was defective from the start, or maybe it was all that pine sap from when I lived in FL.

I have a feeling that getting it done professionally would probably cost what the car is worth, and not even I am crazy enough to go ahead with that.

I tried patching it with spray stuff, but it looks only slightly "white trash" than all the flakes. And it keeps peeling and peeling and peeling.

What are my options? What would a smart person, who doesn't have a lot of money to put into something like this, do?

(The upside to having an "apaloosa" car is that it is easy to spot in parking lots.)

1. Embrace it, or maybe make an Art Car
Love the Appaloosa for what she is, or maybe take some materials you might have on hand and make an "art car" (see http://www.artcars.com/)

Good Luck!

2. You Probably Can't Stop it From Peeling
without completely sanding it down. But make sure to protect any areas that have peeled and may be revealing bare metal. Either sand and spray rustoleum on the spots or wax it to prevent water from getting through.
That's about all.
