DU Moms - What do we *really* want for Mother's Day?
Forget flowers, burnt toast in bed, etc. What do we really want? Me, I'm looking forward to my bottle of Johnny Walker Blue in the silk-lined box :-)

47. I was just at the FMI show this weekend
And the company that owns JW was there, pouring Green. I can't afford it as a rule, but my birthday is Sunday, so I think I might spring for it. Except I have to help the daughter get something for her mother. I think we are going for a new kitchen table that folds up against the wall. She has a fairly small apartment.

I'm in a small space myself; if I could fold away my table, it'd be a big help!

62. Yep
I love playing in the dirt. I am slowly turning everything over to perinnials, so I can fill in with some annuals, but not have to do my whole garden with them.

Have you seen Arizona Blanket Flowers? One of my new favs:

Not sure what type of rose I want this year. I have a deep red, bright yellow, and a neat pinkish greyish purplish one that smells GREAT!!! I will definantly get one with a scent this year. May look for a blue one.

16. I agree completely.....
No kids fighting, no cooking, no cleaning.

I want to be able to sit down and watch a TV show without interuption and I'd love to be able to take a nap without interuption, too.

I told my husband that I wanted a hotel room--so that I could do just that--sit and watch TV, order room service, take a nap and I promise I'd be home before bed. :-)

Knowing me, I'd probably come home missing everyone after an hour -- it would be too quiet.

31. What I really want
A couple of hours to myself without my husband whining that his hands hurt, his back hurts, his shoulder hurts, the dogs are bothering him and the so is the kid; and the kid going down for a long nap giving me a chance to read a tacky romance novel while sipping several glasses of wine.

What I'll get is my husband telling me he has to go up to his daughter's house to install new locks on her doors so that her ex-boyfriend can't continue to walk in the house so while the baby is down for her nap would I mind cleaning the back yard of dog poop and mowing it. Oh well, maybe I can still get a glass or two of wine drank before he comes home and baby awakens.

40. How about multitasking.........
Fill a hot-water bottle with chilled wine and hang it from the lawnmower like an intravenous bag, or whatever they're called. Then enjoy yourself outdoors pushing the mower.

Or else hire yourself a studly lawn boy, and sit in the shade and drink the wine while supervising. Somebody needs to make sure that the jobs is done right. Might as well be you.

36. I want a date with my husband.
I want HIM to arrange for the babysitter. I want him to decide what we're doing, none of this "what do you want to do?" "I dunno" crap.

I did give him some ideas. I wouldn't mind a picnic dinner. I wouldn't mind a play. Or a few rounds of pool. Or lying in the bed of his truck with the tailgate down, staring up at the stars and sharing a bottle wine.

One Mother's Day Eve, I got incredibly drunk on tequila and did all sorts of things. It was fun. But not fun to have a hangover while your three year old is yelling HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY! in your face the next morning.

66. excuse me, this is mother's day, not wive's day
I am not getting any hints as to what I can do for my 70 year old mom here. All these young mothers are answering.

The thing about the "I dunno" crap. For me, at least, having sex is at the top of the list. Other than that I really do not have any strong preferences, except for no opera, jazz or ballet please.
The things that guys like to do are kinda guy things - strip clubs, sports, and cards.
My mom and my sister-in-law are both sports fans, but that can be its own nightmare. Too much cheering can spoil the mood. With my SIL there also is the taste problem. She is a Celtics, Bears, and Duke fan. A problem for him since he is a Lakers, Rams fan. They have been to some Bears vs. Rams games.

So it is hard to answer "what do you want to do?" when you know that the top answer "goto an NBA play-off game" is going to get vetoed with extreme prejudice and maybe even put you in the doghouse. The guy has to think "what does she want me to want to do?" the easy answer to which is just let her decide what to do.

I sent my mom a gift certificate to Bern's Steak House in Tampa
Edited on Fri May-06-05 04:10 PM by Purrfessor
it's also enough to cover my dad's meal as well. When they go out to dinner, which isn't often, they consider Red Lobster as something of a special treat.

They've been to Bern's once, many years ago, so they know what to expect. I'm sure they'll enjoy it.

I guess I can be considered the mom of our household. My wife brings home the bacon and I fry it up in a pan. Occasionally my daughters refer to me as mom.

But I'll remain a traditionalist and wait for Father's Day.

49. Simply to hear from my kids
I haven't heard from my oldest daughter since before Christmas. I've emailed and sent a couple of letters but I've heard nothing in reply (she doesn't have a phone). I don't know if she's mad at me (though I don't know why she would be) or if she's just being extra lousy about keeping in touch.

I've seen my son once in 6 1/2 years. His father won't let him come visit me and I pay so much money in child support that I can't afford to visit him there (Virginia - I'm in California) nor can I afford to fight it in court. I also don't have a phone number for him. I write to my son twice a month, at least, but rarely hear back, though when I do, he is affectionate and always tells me he loves me.

I will hear from my middle child, another daughter, who I speak to on the phone regularly. But I'd really like to hear from the other two - that would make my day.
