3. A turkey. 45 years ago. And not a frozen turkey, noooooo
Edited on Fri May-06-05 03:06 PM by MrModerate
A live turkey. Full of spite, spit, shit, and attitude.

My mother was appalled (she was a city girl). My father wondered how I'd got the damn thing home without getting my eyes pecked out. Things were pretty wild around our house that late November.

But on Thanksgiving day, all was quiet again. I didn't even ask, sitting at the table, "What happened to Turkey-Lurkey?" (of course I'd named the damn thing)

But I knew. And I never let myself be alone with my dad and a hatchet from that moment forward.

16. A bike in Kids Bowling for Kids
Edited on Fri May-06-05 03:28 PM by greyl
It was a Sears brand (Freespirit?) light-blue 12 speed. I probably wouldn't have won without the priests and nuns at St. Agnes (horrible school) pledging like 5 and 10 cents a pin. The contest was to raise money for young cancer patients, so that was good.

Also, a Badger airbrush for first place in the design category at Antonelli's Institute of Art & Photograpy-York PA for:
(there are hard-to-see-in-this-small-shot multicolored fingerprints on the keys, btw)

and some award (the gold sticker) at the MD Art Education Awareness contest in 1985 or 6 for this pencil drawing:

Why, have you?

edit: I replied to the wrong message.
Robert, tell me what I've won!!! .../edit

11. tons of prizes thousands of dollars
When the casinos were new to the Gulf Coast and trying to win over the hearts of the people, they had tons of promotions and contests, and I used every legal trick in the book to get more than my fair share. I have the free time to pursue this hobby again but unfortunately the promotions are no longer good enough to be worth the time. :-(

I would have to go back to my old tax records to figure out how much I got over the years that way, which I am too lazy to do, but the best hit came when I dragged my partner along to a free tournament and he won $10,000. I only won $100 in that one. So the student surpassed the master that time. :-)

The conservation movement is a breeding ground of communists
and other subversives. We intend to clean them out,
even if it means rounding up every birdwatcher in the country.

14. I won two

Went on this bus trip to NY through my sisters work. The company gave them a last minute reduction on the price. So the tickets ended up being something like $2.29 cents cheaper. So instead of having piles of change and one dollar bills and handing them out the had a raffle for the people on the bus. They passed around a snowman candy jar and asked how many pieces of candy were in it. I picked the right amount and ended up with $50.00 and the candy jar.

Also years ago I had pet ferrets and the local fairground had a ferret show. So I went to take a look. A local ferret rescue was holding a raffle to raise money to buy things to take care of the ferrets. The vendors donated ferret items for a ferret basket of goodies. I bought a ticket and won the basket which my little carpet sharks enjoyed the contents to no end. Especially the snacks and the new styling hammock the got.

It was second or third prize IIRC. Also some winning Lotto tickets since I've been playing it for about fifteen years. The most at one time was around a hundred bucks.

It was a trivia contest of historical figures. I played against three other people and they didn't get to answer a single question. Only after I won did I mention my degree in History. :o

20. In high school, a mini TV/radio
It was maybe a 4" or 5" screen and black & white, but it lasted for years and was great to watch late at night while in bed. And, it had decent reception for not being hooked up to cable.

This was like in 1984 or so.

Edited on Fri May-06-05 03:31 PM by d_b
My uncle runs http://sweepstakesonline.com/ and my mother is a sweeps psychopath. Consequently, I've won all sorts of things in my lifetime. The last big thing I won were tickets to the sugar bowl when LSU faced Oklahoma. Sold em on ebay for around a grand.

26. I usually get the booby prize. But, in the last few years I've won .....
a box of CAO Gold cigars at a drawing. On a cruise ship - Elation New Years Eve 2000 - I won a game show and was awarded a plastic trophy of course, a bottle of Champagne and bragging rights. In Dec 04 I got a Microsoft Achievement Award for finding a bug in Windows XP relating to Norton Utilities. I got a Tee and an upgrade to XP Plus. I'm waiting for my second award since I found a flaw in their new AntiSpyware; found it within 24 hrs. upon release. One of my clients said they read about it the newspaper that I won it already, but Microsoft hasn't notified me yet. There were a couple of other things, I think but can't remember.
