Malt vinegar

I love that stuff on fish and subs. When I go to Penn Station I get the Philadelphia cheese steak and grab a bottle of malt vinegar and squirt some on every bite I take of the sandwhich.

2. Yes
The breading sops up the vinegar and holds in the flavor. I was introduced to malt vinegar by my uncle who used to live in Maine and has a lot of fish eating experience under his belt.

3. Only malt vinegar allowed in my house is Sarson's.
It's an Irish brand. Mr. Wonderful won't touch any other malt vinegar.

14. It appears to be number one in the U.K...
First created in 1794 by Thomas Sarson, Sarson's is the nation's number one vinegar brand, selling the equivalent of 22 million of its 250ml signature pear-shaped bottles every year.

The cheese steak sounds AMAZING!! :9

The Prophet makes really good chili and he puts some malt vinegar in it - wow! I love it on thick-cut french fries.

9. Yes, try it
I wasn't convinced that it would be good at first, but EP is the chef around here and he was right!

The very first chili I ever put malt vinegar on was at a place in D.C. called Hard Times Cafe and they had this delicious frito pie (chili on top of frito chips). OH MY GOD!! Yum....

10. I like fritos in my chili
I usually put cheese, tobasco and fritos in my chili. I don't know why I started doing that frito thing. I've never seen it in any restaurant around here. But I'll scratch the chips and tobasco and go with malt vinegar and cheese next time. Thanks for the tip.

17. I make Frito Pie all the time.
Chili, cheese and Fritos together-great combo. And to make it a little bit healthier (or into an entire meal) I top it w/ lettuce, tomatoes, onions, jalapenos, sour cream(ok, not so healthy) and salsa.
Entire meal on one plate except for dessert (then we just do fresh fruit).

7. I remember my first time
Arthur Treacher's on University Avenue in Jacksonville, Florida.

I thought tacky old Florida had NOTHING to teach this 12-year-old New Yorker about food. HA!

I just about refuse to eat battered fish without it.

Thank you for honoring the malt, Droopy. :patriot:
