had a much closer relation to science.
I suppose that the tenet, "Seek, and ye shall find", doesn't count for much w/the pick and choose theology crowd. It is an embarrassment that these people would be more than happy to send the US back 1000 years and allow the rest of the world to march happily forward, learning and using the knowledge gained.
Strange how Socrates thought some forms of life were spontaneous, ie, maggots on rotting meat. If he would have had a microscope, he would have seen eggs planted by flies...one small instrument, and 300 years of thinking would have been dashed on the rocks of scientific reality.
In any case, the loss of reality of these people is incredible. Dinosaurs died in the Great Flood; the universe was created in 6, 4 hour days, (just where did these 24 hour days come from? There was no sun or earth until the 3rd day in Genesis; where did these 'days' come from?
One of my favorite notions is that Adam and Eve had Caine and Abel; Caine kills Abel...why are we here...end of bloodline before it even really got started. And why was Caine told to 'go marry and build cities'...marry whom build cities for what? Was the building of cities just a way to keep him occupied until he died? There was no one to live in them, the original Ghost Towns.
My point is, the Bible is like any other book, it has to be looked at as a guide, not an absolute. And there needs to be an emphasis on the POSITIVE aspects of all religious teachings. What happened to forgiveness, justice, love, compassion, empathy, caring for those less fortunate? All religions teach these things; but for some horrid reason, many religious leaders are hell bent on the negatives...pain, suffering, expansion of ignorance and intolerance.......alas, I am discouraged to say the least.
Beware of zealots, regardless of their stripe...evil resides in intolerance.
