New Star Wars movie
I don't know about you all but, I am getting as giddy as a school boy waiting for the new Star Wars movie. I read the book and it is great it looks like Lucas is really taking shots at bush in this one.

1. Here's my prediction
looks great in 90% of the scenes. Dialogue is universally stupid (a Lucas trademark).

2. Yeah the acting is kind of sucky but,
the theme of the story is really awesome. There is a part in the book where Anakin's wife complains that all the measures that Palpatine has taken has not made the Republic any safer. The repukes are going to hate this movie.

4. Not me.
Even though the original was 10 times better (so far anyway) I still feel like a kid when I go to see a Star Wars movie. So for that reason alone I am greatful to Lucas.

5. Dialogue was never Lucas' strong suit.
The original trilogy had quite a few groan-inducing lines. When you're younger these things are meaningless, but I can't see "Empire Strikes Back" and hear the line "scruffy looking nerfherder" without blushing.

7. Lawrence Kasdan mostly wrote the screenplay
Kasdan took over from another scriptwriter (not Lucas) with "Empire". Sorry to rain on the knee-jerk anti-Lucas parade, but Lucas only wrote the screenplay for IV, and just the story outline for the other two.

Kasdan did some good work in the 80's - became more famous later for "The Big Chill" and "Silverado", but did well with "Empire" and "Jedi".

Lines like "I don't know, fly casual!" and "I'd just as soon kiss a Wookiee!" are pure Kasdan, not Lucas.

Sometimes I think people try too hard to tear down the whole deal because it makes them feel superior or hip. These are basically kids' movies which should be immune from jaded adult eyes. There is a strong undercurrent of classic mythology which proves Lucas has never strayed far from his Joseph Campbell.

Or in other words, lighten up, folks... it's a movie, not the end-all of the universe.

I plan on enjoying the hell out of III.

6. You're so right about the dialogue.
I wish George Lucas had just given all the ideas to Peter Jackson.

Or anyone else.

The story and the themes are good ones, but the dialogue and actual execution....not so great. So many people are going to see this film, and to me that won't reflect on the actual picture at all. Just the desire to find out the rest of the story and what happens to Anakin.

8. I posted a thread about this the other day,
and I am really looking forward to seeing this film. I already have my tickets! I read the book and if the film is half as good, it will be great.
