Tribune staff report
Published May 10, 2005, 9:53 AM CDT

An individual will be charged today in connection with the stabbing deaths of two young girls from north suburban Zion, police sources told the Tribune this morning. Details to come.

-----

Better the police find the person than the parents. I know if something like that happened to one of my kids, the person responsible would be thankful if the police found him/her before I did.

1. I hope they got him/her. Whoever did this, it was sick. Poor girls, poor
families. I heard one of the fathers was a person of interest. I hope it wasn't him.

AMEN on both points. police, esp in chi/illinois are known for solving cases by mfg'ing evidence just to improve their stats; but even the most cynical cops are moved by these cases.

9. Sometimes
when something this horrible happens, there is such a rush to avenge, that not enough care is taken to make sure they have the right person........

3. The father of one of the girls was a suspect
so I don't know how that figures into the "better the police find the person than the parents."

4. Damn. I didn't know that
I don't know if that would make this whole mess better or worse.

1) Anonymous insane person grabs two girls
2) Person who should be protecting girls is insane

Either way, if this person is guilty, I say let the two mothers have a half-hour of quality alone time with him/her.

6. He wasn't a suspect but a person of interest. I don't know what the
difference is, but the news said he is a person of interest but not a suspect.

8. It's functionally the same thing.
"Suspects" have certain rights that kick in under the Constitution.

That's why police skirt the issue and call them "persons of interest."

10. yeah I thought something like that. I mean if they are interested in
you then you must be suspected of something.
