Body mutilation or artistic expression?
Should I pierce my ears? I really want to wear earrings and express myself, but I don't know. It seems like such a dramatic step to take because I will always have a hole in my earlobe if I pierce them and I don't want to have to wear earmuffs when I apply for a job. Besides, I hear they can get infected.

1. Well as far as I know if you don't keep anything in them
it will close up. Besides its only a small hole unless you are doing something like some tribesmen around the world do and put a large disk in the hole.

2. You don't need any more holes in your head than you were born with.

4. hahahahah!
Yup, exactly.

(This was actually an issue in my family because Mom comes from a country where they usually pierce the ears of baby girls right after they're born. I still have all these pairs of incredibly tiny cute baby earrings my grandfather sent that I never wore, because Mom decided it should be my choice. Got 'em done when I was 10.)

8. LOL - my mama said only trashy women had pierced ears.
I wonder what she would say if she could see her baby girl with five ear piercings and a tattoo at age 50. I like to think her standards of what constitutes a ladylike appearance would have relaxed a bit in the last 40 years.

10. it used to be a big deal for girls to get pierced ears
now the question is whether or not they get pierced navels.

Anyway, I find pierced navels way sexier than earrings, prolly for the same reason i would have found pierced ears sexy 30 years ago... it was daring, and it suggested a certain uninhibitedness.

Interestingly enough, i DO NOT find pierced lips, eyebrows, or noses sexy, although they are certainly more daring than a belly ring.

12. ear piercings are pretty tame these days- I had a home job
On my 16th birthday my older sister and I locked ourselves in the bathroom and she pierced my ears using a sewing needle, an ice cube, and a potato. My mother was screaming at us through the door the whole time. I've never had an infection and the holes never closed.

The piercings are perfectly centered and I've had them for decades. I used to wear post earrings all the time, but I find its uncomfortable to sleep with them in. I really don't wear earrings that often any more, but the holes have never closed (although I think that is always a possibility).

I think the holes are barely noticeable when I am not wearing earrings. Ear piercings are so common- I hardly think its the kind of thing even a very conservative employer would think twice about. Tatoos are another story, and piercings elsewhere on the face might be seen as not fitting in a corporate environment, but don't worry about pierced ears, they're common.

13. i feel the same
about branding myself.

unique, artistic, but perhaps too shocking for public-consumption.

o/c, i cd do it on my lower-back, but men usu have @ least SOME fat-repository there, the ubiquitous "bunny-handles"; & that's just TRASHY!

then, there's the searing pain of that red-hot iron to consider...
