Am I the only 29 year old who likes Rowan & Martin's Laugh-in?
The TRIO channel is showing extra episodes of the show this month (normally they have it on at 10AM EST, M-F). I know that much of the humor is dated, and is somewhat British-like, but I find the show to be a refreshing form of comedy that we don't see anymore. I recently learned that Sesame Street (of which I was a big fan between 1979-1983) was in many ways modeled after Laugh-in. Maybe that's why I like the show.

What is amazing is that I know many smart people from my generation who have never even heard of Laug-in. Amazing, seeing as how this was the number one rated show in America between 1968-70. Back then, anyone who was anyone appeared on Laugh-in.

I am also a huge fan of American Dreams, and the bulk of my dissertation concerns American politics in the 1960's.

Maybe I should have been a Baby Boomer after all?

2. Wow, I am impressed.
I am 47 so I watched it when it was running. But I agree the humor was fresh and creative. Have you ever seen reruns of the Flip Wilson Show? Another one of my favorites. Unfortunately at the time of Laugh In there were a lot of censors so they couldn't say a lot of things. For example, the word "pregnant" was a no-no. But even with its limitation of what they could do I think it was such a good show.

4. But Dan Rowan used to openly smoke cigarettes on the show too
Except for Bill Maher's show (and we know what happened to him), you don't see that anymore on late night or live TV.

5. I know. Its weird.
You could smoke on TV. If you have ever seen reruns of "All In the Family" then you also know you did not have to be politically correct as he openly made fun of Blacks, Jews, etc. Yet there were these "standards" in place. You couldn't say "pregnant." If you have ever watched "I Dream of Jeannie" notice she could not show her navel. What can I say? It was a strange time. Though not nearly as strange as today! Back then people were trying to get more freedoms, not get rid of the ones they had.

:D

I wanted to be Judy Carne and have stuff written all over my body. :-)

Edit: I once wrote R&M a fan letter and asked them if I could have the Joke Wall when they were done with it. :D
