....overheard a conversation goin' on between co-workers...one a city cop who works security...and a fundie...about how they're sick of people on welfare takin' all their money...I turned around and said...what about people on welfare?...it's not the poor livin' it up on the south side o'town in the projects that're rippin' you off..it's corporate welfare..the *war* and the rich who are....I was told I had a right to my opinion...and I said yeah everybody does have a right to their opinion but not their own facts and the fact remains that the poor aren't to blame...the rich are....sooooo...I'm off today and just got home awhile ago and there are 5 messages on my anwering machine from the temp agency I work for...I called and was told that I'm doing a good job but I need to keep my views to myself...that my supervisor had gotten complaints and if I wanted to keep my job....don't discuss my views anymore...just sit there and shut the fuck up...stick my head up the corporate ass and remain silent or we'll take away your part time temp $8 an hour job or you can just go live in a ditch somewhere for telling the goddamn TRUTH...i hate this fucked up ass backwards world. :evilfrown:

....this company is pullin' out of our town after being one of the biggest employers in our area for 40 years...but I took what I could get...gotta pay rent and buy goddamn gas..feed my cats...on 27 hours a week..guess now I can forget about trying to apply for a permanent position elsewhere within the company which I had planned to do before today. :( :hug:

....not as sick about 'em not passing now...only roughly 15K people turned out to vote parish wide...which is about 155K population... the majority say fuck the cops and fire department and the juvenille detention center...we're not payin' more property taxes for any reason...the Chamber of Commerce opposed the continuation of these taxes...not NEW ones just some that've been on the books for a decade or so...sigh. :nopity: :hi:

...months...and the cop will lose that extra time too...explained above about votin' for taxes so the cop wouldn't lose his job...but they complained to my superior so I could lose my temp job faster than they'd lose theirs...warped. x(

....I just couldn't stand to hear what they were saying...they're both losing their jobs and living in FEAR of having their jobs taken out of state by this company...yet blaming the poor for it all instead of who's really to blame for THEM having to go on unemployment themselves here in a couple months....this company has been here for 40 years and leaving this town high and dry...a continuation of property taxes for the cops and fire department just failed because the Chamber of Commerce opposed it..and I have to hear two people yuk it up about people on welfare taking their money..my loathing will be extremely difficult to suppress when I have to go back there now...won't be making an attempt to get that permanet position out of town with the company i had my eye on now. :eyes:

What about the rest of the company? OK, they suck too for leaving, but you had thought about leaving with them. Has anything else changed? How about TPTB in the company or your supervisors there? Have you gotten this terrible uppity liberal reputation throughout the company, or could you still apply and the managment and HR people who count maybe OK it because you can do the job?

All is not lost simply because you pissed off a few people who bothered to complain. You never know, the complainers may be on other shitlists.

They get paid VERY well for it. Most school police, university police, and police at special events are full-time in some other PD, but are getting paid for wearing their uniform somewhere else part-time. The security guards at Michael Jackson's ranch? Most of them are off-duty police officers making some extra cash.

I know of a fwe cops in my town that work with casinos during their off-hours -- they have the same legal authority/responsility off-duty as on, and are thus far more preferable to regular security guards.

..they deal mainly with industrial labor...all they'd been able to find me was one cashier position for a college bookstore...and this position...there've been a lot of calls coming through from a couple places who are offering people at this insurance company I'm temping for though as they're laying off and relocating people...so I'm going to apply for the ones I'm hearing about too.....I'm in a good position to hear first what jobs are being offered around here as a result...it sux but gotta suffer there for a little while longer...my loathing will be harsh...but gotta exist and survive in the mean time.

I'd also let them know that others were pushing their views on you and simply stated your opinion back. Also say that you walked away from the conversation without any anomosity and this compalint comes as a surprise and a bit offensive. Stick up for yourself in a strong and mature way.

I'd also be on the look out for other temp agencies in case this one can't handle being grown ups about the situation. :)

....after writing letters to the editor back in the 90's when I defended the Clintons against Falwell...this is the pit of fundie hell...can't say a word around here period...without having to put up with maniacs...I didn't work for a long time after the last temp place I worked for wouldn't send me anywhere else because their receptionist had said some stuff she and I'd been discussing after I left...she ended up quiting after the repuke manager pissed her off over it and they never sent me on another job...I've burned bridges all over this horrid town for having too big a mouth it seems.

..and lucky to have this job at all...just left a relationship after 14 years of which I didn't work for 10 of those..starting over and stuck...plus my dad's been sick..getting a bone marrow transplant at present...want to be near in case of the worst happening with him and my mom....and on and on...just not feasible on any level right now.

.....between this insurance company which is leaving and taking over a thousand jobs with them and layin' off another thousand....the pickin's are mighty slim in these parts....and with my inability to not be able to keep my mouth shut I was blackballed by the biggest temp agency in this town too...doesn't pay to be a vocal librul...eventhough these people are seeing first hand how the rich and powerful are screwin' 'em...they blame the poor...infuckin'sanity I tell ya! x(
