Please cheer me up. I'm sitting here sobbing.
I just posted about saying goodbye to my friends and now thinking about it is making me so sad. They're all staying here, and I'm setting off into the great unknown, and even though I'm an old woman of 42, I must admit I'm kind of scared.

1. A whole bunch of new friends are waiting for you in Texas.
I might even make the road trip up for the gathering in June. :hi:

7. Thanks. I haven't been up to Dallas in a long time.
I want to hang out with the Dallas DUers. I wish the Rangers were in town. I'd love to see a ball game.

5. a new adventure?
I did a big move in my early 20's, thought I'd return home in a couple years -- 4/5 at the most -- and here it is, 20 years later, I'm middle-aged, divorced, and now it's my two kids that keep me... in L.A.

But I'm still in touch with the friends I grew up with, we email/talk on the phone, and I see 'em 2-3 times a year... so the dislocation isn't total... and it won't be for you... new friends will be folded into the mix... & the heart enlarges...

9. Another Texan here. Your always welcome.
Although we may have to go to the pond, watch the sunset, drink whisky and cuss politicians.

That is required on this ranch.

Where ya going?

Now I can leave a bit earlier because my courtroom appearance was continued to June. I'm shooting for a Monday takeoff.

Edited on Wed May-11-05 04:37 PM by redwitch
Scared to death and way sad. Turns out to be the most amazing place. The friends I have made here I was destined to meet- wouldn't have if I'd stayed, and I can't imagine my life w/o them. And the old friends I left behind are STILL my friends. So cheer up, you are about to embark on a great adventure which will enrich your life and friendships. Big hug, don't worry, it's all a part of the plan. Plus, you have DU to get you through the beginning- I didn't have that 14 years ago! You are a brave pioneer to move so far!
P.S. If I'd known that Cyndi, Marianne , Sue and Karen were here waiting to be my friends, I'd have run the whole way!

23. I will soon know how you feel.
I've decided to go after my dream of living in Southern California, but I'm a bit freaked about leaving all of my friends and family.

Good luck and let me know how the adjustment goes!

24. From someone who's had to relocate several times
I will share some experience with you. The end result has been I now have many friends in different states and we all go and visit each other. It's hard at first but it does get better.

When I moved to Texas it was one of the easiest transitions I've ever had. You'll be amazed how many kind and friendly people you're going to meet. And isn't your hubby here? That's yet another perk!

25. You're not an "old woman"
You're going out into the unknown? Yes, but you're on the precipice of a new and exciting adventure. Meeting new people. A new job. New friends. Life is good!

Hey, I felt the same way after Hubby and I got married, and I moved to South Central Pennsylvania. But, you know, I joined the county Democratic committee. I worked on Ed Rendell's campaign, and learned everything I could about PA. Made new friends. You've gotta bloom where you're planted, right?

Didn't you know that life BEGINS at forty, especially for women? We're in our prime. We're smarter, more confident and more beautiful than we ever were at twenty. Like fine wine, we get better with age.

It's your seventh wedding anniversary. Go out and have a BALL!

:bounce: :toast:

And hush your mouth! 42 is not old... it's seasoned. :)

It's okay to be scared... it's natural... but get ready... I'm betting the next year will be even more exciting than it seems scary right now.
