How big of a loser must you be...........
to force the man who had an affair with your wife to testify at your divorce proceedings?

I didn't know they still allowed stuff like that to happen in divorce proceedings - I thought that played out in the 60s.

Anyway, the sordid details will make themselves known as we go along, but former Royals Manager Tony Pena will be the source of local gossip for awhile here in superconservative Kansas City.

I don't know what the big deal is, though. If a guy catches his wife sleeping around, he should divorce her - end of story! No subpoena. No lawsuit.

2. He probably is trying to protect his assets.
If his wife was cheating on him, he probably doesn't want her to get much of the money when they split.

3. I was surprised to hear he had resigned as manager today.
In the press release there was this rather cryptic line....

"There have been recent media reports that Pena has been subpoenaed to testify as a witness in a civil case, a report he confirmed but on which he declined to elaborate. Baird said the case had nothing to do with the ballclub and Pena said it had no bearing on his decision."

The story didn't elaborate and I wondered if it WAS a factor in his decision, although the Royals are off to a very rough start this season.

4. it surely depends on the laws of the state in question
If that is what your state law and your attorney says is necessary to protect your future and your assets, that is what you must do. Unfortunately, judges do make decisions about how to distribute money and worldly goods based on who they consider "deserving," and the cheating spouse has to expect to pay the price if he or she is unwilling to settle. I think it stinks but I don't see a way around it. If a guy catches his wife sleeping around, then he should be able to depart with a bigger share of the marital assets that if he is the jerk who decided to trade in a 40 for two 20s and now she is too old to get a decent job.

The conservation movement is a breeding ground of communists
and other subversives. We intend to clean them out,
even if it means rounding up every birdwatcher in the country.
