I'm so excited...my best friend from out of town is coming to spend...
the whole weekend with me. We're going to cook out, sit outside by a campfire, listen to good music, and drink tons of beer.

Plus, I just bought and froze a flat of strawberries. I also have some fresh pineapple. She's bringing the rum. We are going to make delicious strawberry daquiris.

She's the best friend you could ever have. You know the kind...the one's you can tell anything to, and not worry about it being repeated, the kind you can fart in front of, and she'll laugh at ya instead of being appalled.

It's going to be a fun weekend. What kind of plans do you have?

1. My best friend drove 175 miles to spend the weekend with me
two weeks ago. We had a blast. I took her gambling and she won $100. So I hope she'll be back soon.

Have a great weekend.

2. Thanks!
We talked about going to a little hole-in-the-wall redneck bar, just for a kick, but we decided to stay safe and stay home and just get plastered here instead.

Sounds like you have a lucky best friend. :D

4. Her husband died 8 months ago
in a horrific car accident. He was a really wonderful guy. Vietnam vet, Navy Seal, and had just started to get involved with a group of vets for Kerry here in KS. She said he told her the morning he died that he couldn't wait to see me again and talk to me all about the political work he had been doing with the vets group. He called them the anti-swift boat vets. Most had never been politically active but were so repulsed by the SBVT that they decided to organize and start phone banking and sending out flyers supporting Kerry.

He had been injured in Vietnam and had to go on disability, lived in constant pain. But rarely complained. The day he died he was on his way back from the VA hospital and a doctor's appt.

So we have spent the past 8 months crying together on the phone and emailing. Our weekend together was so fabulous. We laughed together for the first time since September.

6. That is such a tragic story.
It's good that you two have each other. Such a tragic thing to happen to what sounds like a wonderful man. :(

3. Best friends are the best! Have a great weekend,
and have a brew for me! :toast:

My plans are pedestrian; painting gutters, if the rain doesn't mess us up, and watching my garden grow!

5. Thanks!
I never do much on the weekends. I work, or hang out with my kid, or piddle on the internet.

I did a huge spring cleaning earlier this week, and, after midnight tonight, I'll be caught up on my work. So, I can have a guilt-free weekend of decadent girl fun. :D
