OB is one of the coolest, progressive and laid back communities on the planet.
The pier is the longest on the west coast too.

11. Absolutely -- i lived there in the early 80s when I first moved to SD
on Voltaire st, but first stayed at the OB motel.

what can you say about a place where the Harley is the staple transportation, a major landmark is a headshop and filing a permit to build a Starbucks is considered a legitimate reason to riot.

I live in North Park now, a close second, but no beach.

Just before the Iraq invasion I was heading into OB on Sunset cliffs and someone posted signs on the palms along the road Burma Shave style:
Remember
The last
Gulf War
?
They do.

I thought "I'm home".

13. the pier is over 1/3 mile long
When the surf is really up, waves will sometimes break OVER the pier. One of my favorite things to do is have breakfast at that little restaurant on a weekend morning.

Maybe us San Diego DUers should meet out there for coffee some morning...

15. Lets do it!
That Cafe makes great Fish n Chips. The meal comes with an "OB Sinkers". A battered, cheese stuffed Jalapeno.

Lets do lunch or breakfast there!

Petitions have been passed over the years for OB to secede from the union and to be an independent nation.
