Girls would turn the color of an avocado when he'd drive down their street
...in his El Dorado...

Well some people try to pick up girls
And get called assholes
This never happened to Pablo Picasso
This never happened to Pablo Picasso
And girls could not resist his stare and
So Pablo Picasso was never called an asshole

Well the girls would turn the color
Of the avocado when he would drive
Down their street in his El Dorado
He could walk down your street
And girls could not resist his stare
Pablo Picasso never got called an asshole
Not like you
Alright

Well he was only 5'3"
But girls could not resist his stare
Pablo Picasso never got called an asshole
Not in New York

Oh well be not schmuck, be not obnoxious,
Be not bellbottom bummer or asshole
Remember the story of Pablo Picasso
He could walk down your street
And girls could not resist his stare
Pablo Picasso was never called an asshole
Alright this is it

Some people try to pick up girls
And they get called an asshole
This never happened to Pablo Picasso
He could walk down your street
And girls could not resist his stare and so
Pablo Picasso was never called...

2. Yep, all the way back to VU...
Here's a link for you: "John Cale lyrics from A to Z"...

"Pablo" is probably my #1 favorite Cale track, even though he didn't write it, because all of the "Cale elements" are in place, in perfect proportion.

I was sort of stunned and disappointed that when Bowie covered the song on "Reality," he completely missed its irony. Cale didn't, it's all there in one gorgeous snark-fest.

And the lyrics to another personal favorite, the eleven minute exercise in psychosis he likes to call CAPTAIN HOOK:

Captain Hook, from "Sabotage Live"

I lost my memory today
The day my ship set sail
Atlantic seas board east
To India

The seven seas
East India Company
Pass the Cape of Good Hope
But there is still no hope for me

I can't keep living like this this no more
I can't keep living like this this
I can't keep living like this this no more
O can't you see
You're losing me
Again

Tried to break India's back
But she broke the back of me
It was a painful sight
At least to me

I see the coast is riding out
The coast of India supreme
Under the seven seas
I hear they galloping

I can't keep living like this this no more
I can't keep living like this this
I can't keep living like this this no more
O can't you see
You're losing me
Again

By hook or by crook
I am the captain of this life
By hook or by crook
I am the captain of this life
By hook or by crook
I am the captain of this life
By hook or by crook
The captain of the light
