Texas Musicians II

The first one http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=105&topic_id=3240097&mesg_id=3240097 was absolutely fucking impossible because Texas has produced such an astonishing range of outstanding musicians. This second one was no picnic either not only for the same reason, but also because there are at least two DUers who love each of them.

The names here are maybe a tad lesser known. If you're burning to vote for SRV or Willie, follow the link above to the first thread. The full slate there: Steve Earle, Willie Nelson, Lyle Lovett, Sir Doug Sahm, ZZ Top, Dixie Chicks, Buddy Holly, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Lucinda Williams (#10 was other); Nanci Griffith and Robert Earl Keen were on for a while but got no votes.

A shoutout to DUer Bridget Burke, who on the other thread demonstrated that she knows absolutely EVERYTHING on this subject. If there's a Texas Musicians poll III, I hope she will undertake it.

I'll be around, so if you still just have to see Lightnin' Hopkins, Van Cliburn, CJ Chenier or Tim Kerr on the poll, YELL REAL LOUD and I'll probably switch out some non-vote-getters in 45 minutes or so. Me I wanted to put on Illinois Jacquet. Yell for him and I'll get on it double-quick!

There is no Other. I already put Other on the first poll; I'm not going to cheat Texas musicians out of a badly needed spot just to give you a second chance at Other. You'll just have to reply below if you still think I slighted your choice.

Personally, I think Butthole Surfers would have won this because everybody would have wanted to see the "You selected: Butthole Surfers" screen. However, they got beat out by the Flatlanders. Sorry!

In this one, I voted for the Flatlanders (no disrespect to Roky or the Big O) because, although I have never seen Dallas from a DC-9 at night, it sure is a lovely song.

Heck, if you'd been here Saturday at 6 pm, you could have replaced all 10. One reply and zero votes as of that time. Apparently, the music folks get started drinkin' early on Saturday nights!:D

The night you posted a Texas musicians poll without him was definitely a cold night for alligators.

You're welcome to start the Texas musicians III poll; I think you'll find it a little lonely, though, if this one is anything to judge by.

I won't even say who I voted for, there is too much talent in this 2nd TX. poll.

I chose the Flatlanders. They are awesome! It was either them or Roy and even though I love Orbison's music, the Flatlanders get the nod. Heck I even like the solo work of Ely, Gilmore and Hancock.

The first poll was Favorite Musician(s) from Texas, and somebody pointed out that Jerry Jeff wasn't actually from Texas. But of course this one just says Texas Musicians, so he'd richly qualify. However, I drew the list above from the folks suggested on the first poll, so essentially my useless little brain ignored my own subject line. Apologies, and see #7 above.
