Lowell George ROCKS!!!!!!
Just listening to "Waiting for Columbus", what a genius he was -- boy, I miss him!

That is all.

1. I agree
I love "Oh, Atlanta" and "All that You Dream" in both thier original and their live versions. That's one of the greatest live albums ever!

3. Actually, Bill Payne wrote "Oh, Atlanta" as kind of a nose-thumb >
at Lowell's disdain for hit-oriented songwriting.

12. Did they hate each other by the end?
And, why did George's solo album sound so commercial? What about "Dixie Chicken" and "Fat Man in the Bathtub?"

14. No, never hate. Lowell DID hate the fusion sound >
that Bill Payne and Paul Barrere were leading the band toward, as heard on "Last Record Album" and "Time a Hero." (He would famously leave the stage while the rest of the band played "Day at the Dog Races.")

But, he as much he disliked that direction, he also abdicated his musical leadership as he slipped into heavier and heavier cocaine abuse.

His solo effort was hindered by a lack of quality song writing, although "Honest Man" and "20 Million Things to Do" are up to snuff. He never got the album to sound the way he wanted it, and Warner forced him to release it to support his solo tour, during which he died.

Dixie Chicken and FMITB are Lowell compositions.

6. I had the honor of meeting him once.
He spoke so eloquently. Blew my mind.

But I also witnessed his " mind (making) a promise that his body (couldn't) fill." It was a year before he died.

RIP

He was totally cool and very funny though.

10. I remember it well
Got to see Lowell George and Little Feat in Dallas touring behind 'Time Love a Hero'. No bands like those guys anymore.

13. "Old Folks Boogie" is my favorite
Even though now I'm getting to be the age the song makes fun of.
