Favorite songs with slightly disturbing lyrics
Mine
"Digging in the Dirt" by Peter Gabriel about psychotherapy
Something in me, dark and sticky
All the time it’s getting strong
No way of dealing with this feeling
Can’t go on like this too long

{chorus:}
This time you’ve gone too far
I told you
This time you’ve gone too far
I told you

Don’t talk back
Just drive the car
Shut your mouth
I know what you are
Don’t say nothing
Keep your hands on the wheel
Don’t turn around
This is for real
Digging in the dirt
Stay with me, I need support
I’m digging in the dirt
To find the places I got hurt
Open up the places I got hurt

The more I look, the more I find
As I close on in, I get so blind
I feel it in my head, I feel it in my toes
I feel it in my sex, that’s the place it goes

I’m digging in the dirt
Stay with me I need support
I’m digging in the dirt
To find the places I got hurt
To open up the places I got hurt

Digging in the dirt
To find the places we got hurt

And "Possession" by Sarah McLachlan from the viewpoint of an obsessed fan.

Sarah McLachlan
Possession

Listen as the wind blows
from across the great divide,
Voices trapped in yearning,
memories trapped in time,
The night is my companion
and solitude my guide,
Would I spend forever here
and not be satisfied?

And I would be the one
to hold you down,
kiss you so hard,
I'll take your breath away
and after I'd wipe away the tears,
Just close your eyes dear

Through this world I've stumbled
so many times betrayed,
Trying to find an honest word,
to find the truth enslaved,
Oh you speak to me in riddles
and you speak to me in rhyme
My body aches to breathe your breath,
you words keep me alive,

And I would be the one
to hold you down,
kiss you so hard,
I'll take your breath away
and after I'd wipe away the tears,
Just close your eyes dear

Into this night I wander,
it's morning that I dread,
Another day of knowing of
the path I fear to tread,
Oh into the sea of waking dreams
I follow without pride,
Nothing stands between us here
and I won't be denied

And I would be the one
to hold you down,
kiss you so hard,
I'll take your breath away
and after I'd wipe away the tears,
Just close your eyes dear

Peter Gabriel actually has many distubing songs. "Every Breath you Take" is a little disturbing, as well.

Any additions?

5. I really wanted to like "Tool", but I just didn't
I like all kinds of music, and heard great stuff about them. For some reason I just couldn't get into their music. I am not sure why.

2. "The Disco Strangler" by Eagles
Lookin' for the good life
dressed to kill
She don't have to worry 'cause
there's always someone else who will

Loose and loaded every night
Dancin' underneath the flashin' light
sayin, "Look at me, baby, look at me.
I'm beautiful, I'm beautiful, I'm somebody."

Just slip into the arms of the disco strangler

He's been around here all along, baby,
Been waiting for his time to come.
You lookin' for attention, darlin'
He will surely give you some

He's the crimson in your face du jour,
the fiddler in your darkest night.
He's the melody without a cure and
Rome is burning, but that's all right.

Just slip into the arms of the disco strangler
Just slip into the arms of the disco strangler

16. No problem, if you can transpose.
The song is in the key of D, and my posted melody notes are based thereon.

You can play it in any key you'd like. ;)

4. "Down with the sickness" by a band actually called Disturbed
"Down With The Sickness"

Drowning deep in my sea of loathing
Broken your servant I kneel
It seems what's left of my human side
Is slowly changing in me

Looking at my own reflection
When suddenly it changes
Violently it changes (oh no)
There is no turning back now
You've woken up the demon in me

Get up, come on get down with the sickness
Open up your hate, and let it flow into me
Get up, come on get down with the sickness
You mother get up come on get down with the sickness
You fucker get up come on get down with the sickness
Madness is the gift, that has been given to me

I can see inside you, the sickness is rising
Don't try to deny what you feel
(Will you give in to me?)
It seems that all that was good has died
And is decaying in me

It seems you're having some trouble
In dealing with these changes
Living with these changes (oh no)
The world is a scary place
Now that you've woken up the demon in me

(And when I dream)
No mommy, don't do it again
Don't do it again
I'll be a good boy
I'll be a good boy, I promise
No mommy don't hit me
Why did you have to hit me like that, mommy?
Dont do it, you're hurting me
Why did you have to be such a bitch
Why don't you,
Why don't you fuck off and die
Why can't you just fuck off and die
Why can't you just leave here and die
Never stick your hand in my face again bitch
FUCK YOU
I don't need this shit
You stupid sadistic abusive fucking whore
How would you like to see how it feels mommy
Here it comes, get ready to die

21. Yeah, they don't play that last spoken word bit
on the radio, though. Or only play the first half of it. A little too disturbing I guess they figure for the young listeners out there. I like a lot of Disturbed's songs, but they need to come out with a new album. Need some fresh material.

weren't that way seemed to have a dark undercurrent in the music that made them slightly disturbing to listen to. Or it could have been I was young and stoned. Your choice.

8. Afghan Whigs - My Curse
Oooh hurt me baby
I flinch so when you do
Your kisses scourge me
Hyssop in your perfume
Oh, I do not fear you
And slave I only use
As a word to describe the special way I feel for you

You look like me
And I look like no one else
We need no other
As long as we have ourselves

But I won't cry about it
Every time you get obsessed
Every time I came undressed

All ugly thoughts are gone
I'm sure we'll all be friends
I'll try to break your back
You'll try to make amends
Curse softly to me baby
And smother me in your love
Temptation comes not from hell but from above

And there's blood on my teeth
When I bite my tongue to speak
Zip me down, kiss me there
I can smile now
You won't find out ever

Hurt me baby
I flinch so when you do
Your kisses scourge me
Hyssop in your perfume
Oh I do not fear you
And slave I only use as a word to describe
The way I feel when I'm with you
If I have to lie about it everytime I came undressed

(Again, probably not my *fave*, just the first that came to mind. :))

14. Family Snapshot by Peter Gabriel
The streets are lined with camera crews
Everywhere he goes is news
Today is different
Today is not the same
Today I make the action
Take snapshot into the light, snapshot into the light
I'm shooting into the light

Four miles down the cavalcade moves on
Driving into the sun
If I worked it out right
They won't see me or the gun

Two miles to go, they're clearing the road
The cheering has really begun
I've got my radio
I can hear what's going on

I've been waiting for this
I have been waiting for this
All you people in TV land
I will wake up your empty shells
Peak-time viewing blown in a flash
As I burn into your memory cells
'Cos I'm alive

They're coming 'round the corner with the bikers at the front
I'm wiping the sweat from my eyes
-It's a matter of time
-It's a matter of will
And the governor's car is not far behind
He's not the one I've got in mind
'Cos there he is-the man of the hour, standing in the limousine
"I don't really hate you
-I don't care what you do
We were made for each other
-Me and you
I want to be somebody
-You were like that too
If you don't get given you learn to take
And I will take you."

Holding my breath
Release the catch
And I let the bullet fly

All turned quiet-I have been here before
Lonely boy hiding behind the front door
Friends have all gone home
There's my toy gun on the floor
Come back Mum and Dad
You're growing apart
You know that I'm growing up sad
I need some attention
I shoot into the light

19. Life on Mars?-David Bowie
It always makes me sad...

It's a god-awful small affair
To the girl with the mousy hair
But her mummy is yelling "No"
And her daddy has told her to go
But her friend is nowhere to be seen
Now she walks
through her sunken dream
To the seat with the clearest view
And she's hooked to the silver screen
But the film is a saddening bore
For she's lived it
ten times or more
She could spit in the eyes of fools
As they ask her to focus on

Sailors fighting in the dance hall
Oh man!
Look at those cavemen go
It's the freakiest show
Take a look at the Lawman
Beating up the wrong guy
Oh man! Wonder if he'll ever know
He's in the best selling show
Is there life on Mars?

It's on Amerika's tortured brow
That Mickey Mouse
has grown up a cow
Now the workers
have struck for fame
'Cause Lennon's on sale again
See the mice in their million hordes
From Ibeza to the Norfolk Broads
Rule Britannia is out of bounds
To my mother, my dog, and clowns
But the film is a saddening bore
'Cause I wrote it
ten times or more
It's about to be writ again
As I ask you to focus on

Dring-dring-dring......

40. No people just think its a really cool song and it never dawns on them
what the lyrics mean. Though I have been guilty of that myself, though the song was a lot more subtle than every breath you take. I thought for years that U2's "Till the End of the World" was about a guy talking about or to a woman. Hell it never dawned on me that it was about Jesus talking to Judas. I am not the only one because a lot of people I talked to never got the connection.

23. Ah, Possession..one of my favs!
For disturbed, look no further than early Alice Cooper

- Dead Babies - neglected kids
- I Love the Dead - necrophelia
- Cold Ethyl - necrophelia

More recent Alice

- Pick up the Bones - timely, about death from wars
- Wicked Young Man - Columbine
- Blow Me a Kiss - hate crimes

Then one song that has always freaked me out was from the seventies.. D.O.A. by Bloodrock. Anyone remember that one?

24. Hey man,nice shot - by Filter
I wish I would've met you
now it's a little late.
what you could've taught me
I could've saved some face
they think that your early ending
was all wrong
for the most part they're right
but look how they all got strong
that's why I say hey man, nice shot
what a good shot man.
a man
has gun
hey man
have fun
nice shot
now that the smoke's gone
and the air is all clear
those who were right there
got a new kind of fear
you'd fight and you were right
but they were just to strong
they'd stick it in your face
and let you smell what they consider wrong.
that's why I say hey man nice, nice shot
what a good shot man.
a man
has gun
hey man
have fun
nice shot,
I wish I would've met you
I wish I would've met you
I'd say
nice shot.

34. Crossroad Blues by Robert Johnson and sung by Johnson
Can be one of the most disturbing and creepy songs you have ever heard especially if you know what he is talking about.

went to the crossroad

fell down on my knees

I went to the crossroad

fell down on my knees

Asked the Lord above "Have mercy, now

save poor Bob, if you please

Mmmmm, standin' at the crossroad

I tried to flag a ride

Standin' at the crossroad

I tried to flag a ride

Didn't nobody seem to know me

everybody pass me by

Mmm, the sun goin' down, boy

dark gon' catch me here

oooo ooee eeee

boy, dark gon' catch me here

I haven't got no lovin' sweet woman that

love and feel my care

You can run, you can run

tell my friend-boy Willie Brown

You can run, you can run

tell my friend-boy Willie Brown

Lord, that I'm standin' at the crossroad, babe

I believe I'm sinkin' down

36. This one haunts me. Untitled Protest by Country Joe and the Fish
Red and swollen tears tumble from her eyes
While cold silver birds who came to cruise the skies
Send death down to bend and twist her tiny hands
And then proceed to target "B" in keeping with their plans
Khaki priests of Christendom interpreters of love
Ride a stone Leviathan across a sea of blood
And pound their feet into the sand of shores they've never seen
Delegates from the western land to join the death machine
And we send cards and letters.
The oxen lie beside the road their bodies baked in mud
And fat flies chew out their eyes then bathe themselves in blood
And super heroes fill the skies, tally sheets in hand
Yes, keeping score in times of war takes a superman
The junk crawls past hidden death its cargo shakes inside
And soldier children hold their breath and kill them as they hide
And those who took so long to learn the subtle ways of death
Lie and bleed in paddy mud with questions on their breath
And we send prayers and praises.

The song (and dozens of others) is online here:

45. I forgot "Mama" by Genesis
Sort of...incestuous
I can't see you mama
but I can hardly wait
ooh to touch and to feel you mama
oh I just can't keep away
in the heat and the steam of the city
oh its got me running and I just can't brake
so say you'll help me mama
cos its getting so hard

Now I can't keep you mama
but I know you're always there
you listen, you teach me mama
and I know inside you care
so get down, down here beside me
oh you ain't going nowhere
no I won't hurt you mama
but its getting so hard

Can't you see me here mama
mama mama mama please
can't you feel my heart
can't you feel my heart
can't you feel my heart oh
now listen to me mama
mama mama
you're taking away my last chance
don't take it away
can't you feel my heart?

It's hot, too hot for me mama
but I can hardly wait
my eyes they're burning mama
and I can feel my body shake
don't stop, don't stop me mama
oh make the pain, make it go away
no I won't hurt you mama
but its getting so hard

Now I can't see you mama
but I know you're always there
you taunt, you tease me mama
but I never never can keep away
it's the heat and the steam of the city
oh got me running and I just can't brake
so stay don't leave me mama
cos its getting so hard

46. I keep my uncle Leon in my closet
In my closet
And don't nobody know
Just me and uncle Leon
In my closet
And they wonder
Where'd that old man go

You look around and you will see
This world is full of creeps like me
You look surprised, you shouldn't be
This world is full of creeps like me

47. Tyler, by the Toadies
I love the song. My friend and I have can't agree whether or not it depicts a rape.

I always thought that she was scared because she heard a noise and wasn't expecting anybody, because she calls out his name, making sure it's him. Rape never occurred to me until my friend gave me his point of view, which I can see as well.

"Tyler"

And she runs through her days with a smile on her face
And she runs, and she waits, and I wait

We can drive to anyplace, day or night, across the state
And in the morning, into Mexico, we will wake up

I find a window in the kitchen, and I let myself in
Rummage through the refrigerator, find myself a beer
I can't believe I'm really here, and she's lying in that bed
I can almost feel her touch, and her anxious breath!

I stumble in the hallway, outside the bedroom door
I hear her call out to me, I hear the fear in her voice
She pulls the covers tighter, I press against the door

I will be with her tonight!

50. i am stretched in your grave - sinead
yeah, yeah... i know a lot if people don't like her, but whatever

i believe it is actally a traditional song...

I am stretched on your grave
and will lie there forever
if your hands were in mine
I'd be sure we'd not sever
my apple tree my brightness
it's time we were together
for I smell of the earth
and am worn by the weather

when my family thinks
that I'm safe in my bed
from night until morning
I am streteched at your head
calling out to the air
with tears hot and wild
my grief for the girl
that I loved as a child

do you remember
the night we were lost
in the shade of the blackthorn
and the chill of the frost
thanks be to Jesus
we did what was right
and your maiden head still
is your pillar of light

the priests and the friars
approach me in dread
because I still love you
my love and you're dead
I still would be your shelter
through rain and through storm
and with you in your cold grave
I cannot sleep warm

so I'm stretched on your grave
and will lie there forever
if you hands were in mine
I'd be sure we'd not sever
my apple tree my brightness
it's time we were together
for I smell of the earth
and am worn by the weather.

51. "Yes" by Click Click..
They were a European industrial band that sounded more than a bit like Skinny Puppy.

Yes

Back of my head I feel the slaughter
take somebody else's daughter
out in the fields where no one goes
to a place I know we'll be alone
Take to the grass that rolls like lava
steal a scene from 'Onibaba'
take that girl to a place I know
and bury her deep when it's time to go
Throw the wood from the bridge to the water
wood that ended someones daughter
three feet long and square and flat
(I couldn't afford a baseball bat)
watch it float off to the sea
feel it looking back at me
splinters point out accusations
feel another strange sensation

Take to the road in someones camper
smile as I leave with his head in a hamper
bury that basket deep in the ground
head for the city, get lost in the crowd
See description in the paper
laugh at the story, laugh at the news
call from a telephone out in the country
let the bastards know my views
No religion, no temptation
ain't no goddam explanation
do this thing to make me smile
I may well stop it for a while
Can't believe my own ambition
goes no further than the road
that leads me to some destination
covered in blood from head to toe.
