Ugh! "Sunday Morning" is devoting the program to the "high life" and
wealth in various vignettes. Where's the whammy box?

1. How can you think of politics when
SiFi is showing Godzilla vs. Megalon and Godzilla vs. Gigan.

2. "Everyone is wealthy. What's your problem?"
Just more media manipulation.
Everything is just FINE here in Bushworld!
Look how many people are living the high life!
You're not? Well obviously something is wrong with you...nothing to see here, move along, move along...

3. I wonder when this is going to backfire
When are people going to get sick of watching shows that point out all the things they can no longer afford and hit the streets to do something about the situation?

Friday night I was flipping channels and came across an abomination on MTV called "My Super Sweet Sixteen". It was one of those horrors you can't look away from. It's a "reality" show about people who are wealthy beyond belief and the parties they throw for their daughters' sixteenth birthdays.

Un-freaking-believable. I have never seen such spoiled, trashy, worthless teenagers in all my life, or such ridiculous, idiotic, self-absorbed parents. One mother took the daughter to Paris to buy a dress for the party, and the little turd whined the whole time AND refused to have any dress there. At one point, the parents told her they weren't buying her a car for her birthday and she wailed and cried in a restaurant and told them how they had ruined her life. At the end, it showed the father writing a check for half a million dollars to pay for the whole thing, including a $45,000 white SUV which he caved and bought after all.

The only good thing I can say for this show is that it doesn't glamorize these rich kids and parents, but shows them as spoiled, whiny idiots.

4. It's not only "Sweet 16" parties that are over the top...have
you never been to an over the top bar mitzvah?

Oy vey! In some cities they rent out cruise ships for the blessed 13 year old. People hire professional dancers who are there only to get the crowd going. A bar/bat mitzvah party can cost as much as a wedding and remember this is for a 13 year old kid!

5. Holy crap.
Apparently I live in a very different world. The most indulgent thing I see around here is the renting of a limo to pick up middle school kids for a birthday party trip to the movie. And I thought that was over the top!

6. One of my former students was on that show.
The only guy I've seen to have an episode in that series.

Any other comments I have will be made privately. ;)

7. I saw that episode...
yeah I'm kinda embarrassed to admit it. But Jesus it was over the top, they actually rented a private plane to fly to Miami for the day just to have some father/son bonding time!!! It looked like they were from the Main Line which is an area of SERIOUS money. Oh well, what are ya gonna do? On my 16th birthday I had ice cream cake with my family.

8. Dang. I thought that this post was about Miller Brewing
Edited on Sun May-15-05 12:15 PM by jandrok
I did think that it was unusual that "Sunday Morning" would devote a show to Miller's High Life, but what the hell.

The "High Life" is one of the few macrobrews that I can stand. Consistent and unpretentous, it holds up well aginst the watery competition.

9. Hell yeah!
If I have to drink Macro and I've only got a few bucks in my pocket, I'll go for the High Life.

Not but a few years back in Indiana, I was able to get 32oz for a buck! Now that was the high life.

And you can't forget, it's the Champagne of Beers!
