My cat brought a live mole in the house the other night
We heard the screen door open and close (forgot to latch it) and when we looked in the living room, we saw a brown blur drop from the cat's mouth and shoot under the rug.

Oops was patting at the rug with his paw and this small lump was sort of moving this way and that under there. My hubby, who is no hero when it comes to rodents or spiders, was going to put on the oven mitts and try to grab it - I told him he'd only succeed in squashing it since it looked like it was pretty small.

So I had him pick up the cat and I carefully turned the rug back. The poor little thing was cowering under there, keeping very still (no doubt hoping that no one would find it). It was very small, just a baby, and I just picked it up by the tail and took it outside where I let it go. Hubby is always amazed that I can calmly pick them up - "How do you do that?!" is his usual question.

Oops was annoyed but that's tough. I can be philosophical when he kills them and then brings them home but I'm not going to stand by and watch him torment the poor thing.

3. Mine caught a bird in the attic last Monday
Not really sure how the bird got in there but my cat grabbed it and brought it downstairs and let it loose in my bedroom. After about 15 minutes of a Tom and Jerry scene I finally got a shirt thrown over the bird and let it loose outside.

4. I posted today about one that got stuck in my vacuum cleaner
It apparently died in there, trying to hide from the cat.

5. My daucshund-terrier once brought in a baby opossum.
They had apparently run into eachother in the back yard-- the opossum played dead and Sneakers, not knowing what else to do, picked it up, brought it into the house and deposited it next to the woodstove where he showed it no further interest. I was about to pick it up by the base of the tail and take it back outside when it pulled back it's little lips and showed me a mouthful of sharp little teeth (still playing dead otherwise). I used the ash shovel from the stove to scoop it up and dump it back outside where it presumably resumed it's happy opossum life. :)
