What's a freeper?

I've seen the word used often, but don't know the meaning.

I thought it came off the word "reaper" and then evolved into freeper after people saw them fucking up our freedom...(j/k i made that up.)

Although this is the incorrect spelling of the word Moron, it is a tradition amongst many DU members to intentionally spell it this way. The term "Moran" originated from this photo (below) of a pro-war activist (a "Freeper") during the run-up to the invasion of Iraq.

This picture was originally taken during a March 2003 anti-war protest by the St. Louis Independent Media Center. The protest took place in the St. Louis suburb of St. Charles, MO, where Boeing has a missile plant (Boeing had taken over St. Louis-based defense contractor McDonnell Douglas several years earlier.). This picture has been distributed around the world among various web sites. The name of the person holding the sign is unknown.

And yes I said king. I'm under the impression that freepers are looking for a patriarchy in the US and obviously don't care about the electoral process.
