WTF?
Here's what I don't get about this whole Newsweek retraction thing.

When did the Koran become the Qur'an? Does this mean that my uncle is now a Qur'ean War veteran?

6. Just a little...
But while we're on the subject, when did Peking suddenly become Beijing? And when did Hostess Ding Dongs become "King Dons" and when did the pronunciation of the planet Uranus stop sounding like "Your Anus?"

Are there a series of secret votes to which I'm not privvy?

4. Well, when I was a kid here in Britain
it was always spelled Qu'ran. And "Muslims" was spelled "Moslems." I guess you guys have always spelled it the other way, and since then we adopted your spelling too.

5. It's aLways been both
Just Like mosLem vs. musLim. It's mostLy a question of taste about the transLiteration of the Arabic.

PersonaLLy I prefer Qur'an, first because it has the ' in the middLe which clearly indicates that the r beLongs to the former syLLabLe rather than the Latter; and secondLy because it Leads one more naturaLLy to a semi-decent pronunciation of "Qur" which is very different to "Kor".
