I want to go on a cruise, how do I convince my wife it's a good idea?
OK, last September I got married and my wife and I went on a Land-Sea Cruise from Disney. Best. Vacation. Ever. We loved it, every single minute of it. Now we want to go on another, but, instead of the land-sea, we want a 7 day cruise.

I ran the numbers, and we can most certainly afford it, and that is not even taking into account my commissions, and x-mas bonus. She, just does not want to spend money on ANYTHING. How do I convince her to go? Your suggestions would be helpful and very much appreciated

3. She wants to go, but doesn't think we can afford it
When we actually can. We have no kids, and, trust me, we both need a serious vacation.

5. Tell her it is a chance for the two of you to be pampered
and since you may be running for Congress, may be the last time you two can get away.

2. Why does she not want to spend the money on anything?
What are her priorities, is she more interested in savings, are there kids in the fiture, etc?

4. We both want kids, and
I might be running for Congress, if I am then we go after the general election. But, regardless, kids are a ways off because neither of us wants day care to raise our kids, and we cannot afford to have only 1 paycheck, so saving isn't really an issue, it's more cash flow as I see it.

10. Compromise.
Go for something a little shorter and cheaper and you might be able to get her to buy in on it.

7. What's your financial situation?
Perhaps she's right, and a long weekend getaway might be more frugal at this time. It's tempting not to spend money when it's burning a hole in your pocket. I'm not saying a nice week's cruise to the carribean or the meditteranean wouldn't be a blast, but...

It's not something i'd want to spring on a spouse on a whim without taking a hard look at your finances. Maybe it's better to pay off a car loan or pay down your mortgage a little, or better yet pay off your credit cards to get out from under the money lenders.

I'm seriously working on paying off my car loans myself. After that will come my mortgage on my 3 year old house, all the while paying the usual bills and putting a large chunk aside for taxes and retirement. I'm an independent contractor (realtor) and I fall into the 30-35% tax bracket.

Considering my own savings and the way my commissions have been going this year, I could retire by 40-45 (i'm 34) with no mortgage payments and no car payments, perhaps sooner if the bubble doesn't burst too soon.

11. Our position is good
Only car payment at 0% and mortgage payments are debt. I'm not going to pay the car off early, because that would just not make sense. It's free money.

We definitely have the money, though, I just ran the numbers earlier today.

8. There's no time like the present, the future isn't guaranteed...
You'll never regret going on the cruise, but you might regret not going.

Of course, is there a reason she doesn't want to spend money on ANYTHING? You might want to go at the root cause here.

9. Remind her
She won't have to lift a finger for anything for 7 days.
