Poll question: Planes, Trains, or Automobiles?
Putting aside convenience (flying being the most convenient if traveling across the oceans, or just for its time-saving, long-distance efficiency element), which of these 3 is your favorite means of travel?

I chose trains, although they are the least convenient or available, but I love 'em just the same.

1. Planes.
I love flying, I love airplanes. Big ones, little ones, planes I ride in, planes I fly myself. Although airports can be pains in the butt sometimes, I'll fly every chance I get. Even just for the heck of it.

4. I love trains
I don't get to ride them too often. We don't have them in these parts. I would rather go on Amtrak than a plane.

6. I love to drive
I love to fly and I adore trains but the best way to travel is in your own vehicle where you can decide when to stop and start, where to go, what to do, etc.

10. Trains... in Europe
Much better experiences there than with Amtrak here, but that's another story. I love the flexability a train gives you... talk, read, sleep, walk around, eat, look at the scenery, whatever, and comfortably!

12. Ooh, I'll bet!
We did a sleeper to Prague... was great, except when our Canadian buddy got booted off the train at the border. Ongoing stuff about gypsies going to Canada, getting passports, then getting into the Czech Republic? You learn something every day... he learned that one the hard way :(

13. It really depends on where I'm
going, how long I have. I've had some wonderful train trips in other countries. The last time I took the train here, from Kansas City to St. Louis three years ago, a five hour trip took ten hours. Unfortunately, on that run freight has priority over passengers, and it was awful. Didn't arrive in St. Louis until 1 a.m.

I got spoiled in the 70's when I was an airline employee and could fly free everywhere, and almost always got to fly first class. The service was wonderful, the planes were roomier. Sigh. Now when I fly it's like taking an intercity bus but without the charm.

I often drive long distances, when I have the time. In July I'm driving from Kansas to New Mexico, then a week later up to Colorado. I'm really looking forward to that trip.
