Ever have a dream you swear you've had before?
Familiar places and themes that you don't even remember until you're awake and thinking about them?

I was having a series of vivid dreams all through the night, and reflecting upon them I now realize I went to a place or two that I've been once or twice before. Really kinda fun, in a way-- wondering why the mind goes back to the same sequences over and over, for no reason you can fathom.

I really do sometimes wonder exactly what my poor, fried brain is trying to tell me about myself. But perhaps in the end it's best not to find certain things out. Just lie back and enjoy the ride...

1. I wish I could be aware that I'm dreaming in my dreams.
Then I could go around and do all sorts of crazy shit without consequence.

4. You have to notice something that is out of place that tells you"Hey
this is a dream." Once you get to that point it is easier to wake up inside the dream and manipulate it.

Although there have been times I _almost_ caught a clue, like that joke I told that I sorta realized not only wasn't funny but didn't even make sense, and the time I saw a full sized chest freezer on top of a bathtub. Knew it wasn't quite right, but didn't quite wake up in the dream either.

8. I've had dreams
where I'm asleep but I'm dreaming that I'm awake but I can't open my eyes. It usually makes me all panicky, but maybe next time I can try to use that to realize I'm dreaming.

10. That's better than dreaming you're awake and using the bathroom
That almost never ends well! (Well, if you're a little kid anyway) *lol*

15. Ok, I'll probably regret this,
but when I was about 5 or 6 years old, I got up in the middle of the night for bladder relief. Went into the bathroom, did my business, but I couldn't get out of the dang bathroom - I didn't know why, I just couldn't seem to go through the door.

Next thing I know, my mom is tapping me on the shoulder, and I wake up *in the basement* (no bathroom down there), under the stairs. Somehow, I had managed to get all the way down there and take a leak in the corner without ever waking up - plus I really though I saw myself go into the bathroom.

Very weird experience, but I guess I'm lucky that this was the strangest place I've ever woken up.

17. Have peed the bed thinking I was on the "potty".. and being cold
and wet was what actually woke me up.

Morals of the story:

Go pee before you go te bed.

No drinks just before bed.

Don't let yourself get so tired that you can't wake up.

:P

5. I had lots of recurring dreams as a kid.
Same, exact dreams again & again. It hasn't happened in many years, but when it did - they were really strange.

6. I've had serial dreams, as have many other people-that's fairly common.
What you've described sounds a bit like them.

7. I didn't know so many people dreamed about serial!
Sounds kinky. "Pass the corn flakes, and gimme another shot of cold milk..."

9. Yep
I've had dreams and then I like them so much that I dream them again the same night. I have dream themes that I repeat. I used to have a parakeet that talked and I loved him dearly. I would have so many dreams where he would get hurt or die and I knew it was because I was worried about him. Eventually he did die over 4 years ago and still, just last night I had a dream of two parakeets in a cage. One escaped and flew straight up into the sky and I felt tremendous loss and then relief that at least he was free. Then the birdie came straight down and crashed and I woke up. I have two doggies now and I have transferred my dream mommy fears to them. It all deals with fear and loss I guess and longing for what has been lost.

13. I've had this one twice. I shot Eminem.
Edited on Thu May-19-05 09:47 AM by Sugar Smack
Too vivid for my comfort. My "dream friends" and I were standing 8 yards away from the outdoor stage on which he was performing. He wore white tennis shoes, blue jeans and a red hooded sweatshirt. Well, he drew the string on the hood so tightly, only his nose was visible (like Kenny in South Park). He turned his head toward me, leapt off the stage and came at me!

Suddenly, there was a gun in my hand. I raised it and shot. Boom, right in the chest. He fell right there. I couldn't believe I had so swiftly defended myself against an attacker.

The music stopped. One of my friends said, "You shot Eminem." I said ,"He was going to kill me!"
She said, "You. Shot. Eminem." She shook her head while people stared silently.

Suddenly, I was in my bed with the remote aimed at the TV. All the news footage had a highschool picture of me next to a picture of Eminem. There was lots of footage on Eminem's brilliant career, his friends and family, the books he wrote, his interviews, movies and videos, interviews with his fans. Then, there was footage of me, getting stuck in traffic. Crumpling up a resume I'd written and throwing it in the trash. Lighting the wrong end of a cigarette. Tripping over my cat on the way to the bathroom.

The second time, the video footage of me only gets more embarrassing.

WEIRD.

One I used to have was crawling through a maze that had no end. Very frustrating dream.

16. If you find this kind of thing interesting, you might enjoy
the movie 'Waking Life' by Richard Linklater (the guy who did 'Slacker'). It's really worth your time.

19. I have a recurring dream
I've been having it for years. It's always in the same building and I've had it so many times now that, even in my dream, I can recognize that. It's subtly different every time but the people in it and the place as well as the general storyline are the same.

Oddly, I always seem to get the best rest when I have that dream. Except I always want to go back to sleep and return to it.

21. I have recurring dreams all the time
One involves a very large house with an improbably large number of rooms and floors. One of these days I'm going to write a story about it. :)

22. Have dreams along the same theme:
I think I am in a Religious Goods store and trying to pick out a statue, but I wake up before I buy it. Probably becuase I always yearn to go to that kind of store, but usually can't go.
