Well, it's Michelob time tonight! I got good news...
The teacher who abused my son, causing me to pull him out of his school and homeschool him, has been fired.

Looks like the little hick public school that attempted to run itself as though it was private is finally coming around.

Now they'll have to answer to the charges of black parents in the district that racism was involved in the selection of an all-white cheerleader squad (in a school that's 50% black).

Maybe I should run for school board. :D

2. That's EXACTLY
what you should do.

You owe it to the world to use your gifts, and it sounds to me like the field is ripe for planting.

Congrats............

8. Only problem is...
that I'm an outspoken Democrat who doesn't attend church. That won't play well in this heavily Republican, Southern Baptist district. :(

13. Oh?
So if you're not guaranteed a victory, you won't even try?

It's about getting your message out, I think, and you really do have a sound message.

If you won't try, what does that teach your kid?

(A low blow, but, hey, worth a shot, no?)

27. Just so you know,
in this long, eventful life I've led (so far), I've had a hell of a lot more fun with my failures than I did with my successes.

Go for it, and stay in touch....................

10. I'm glad, too.
My son is the better for it. He's happy being homeschooled. The further he gets away from the time he attended the school, the more stuff he tells me.

Even if I were on the school board, I'd never send my kid back. Not unless some serious changes are made...and there are plenty left to make.

4. Maybe you should
School board elections have been used by fundies and other RWs for years as a steppingstone to higher office. It is high time we started to counteract them!

11. I wouldn't have a snowball's chance...
The district is very Republican and VERY Southern Baptist...two things of which I am neither.

19. But surely somewhere there are like-minded people in your corner?
Even if you don't win - you might be inspiration to others out there who think they are the "only one."

16. I won't ever send him back to that hellhole of a school.
The more he tells me, as time passes, the more I see how horrendous it was to have left him there as long as I did.

Here's an example. His teacher in fourth grade told him that she'd hurt him really bad (as she put her hand on his neck), except if she did his mother would have her job. (No, if she would have harmed a hair on him, I would have kicked her ass and that would have been that.)

Same teacher called on children to lead the class in prayer before lunch. (!!!!!) She never called on my son because she disliked him so.

Same teacher had bible study in class, and told children who weren't interested (my son and one Muslim child) to lay their heads on their desks. Then she retalliated because they didn't participate by finding reasons to keep them in at recess. She once sent my son to a kindergarten class because "he wouldn't do his work," and she told him that this (the K class) was where he belonged.

I still haven't let go of what that bitch did to my son. She's not the same teacher who PHYSICALLY abused him--the one in my OP. But, as the old La Cosa Nostra saying goes, "Revenge is a dish best served cold." (And I don't mean violent retribution, I mean contacting the ACLU, the leader of which is an acquaintance of mine.)

Anyway, thanks for asking. Homeschool is going great, and I see a happy child once again.

15. Congratulations. You should run. Don't make it a political thing
make it about the children and good education. Because that is what it is about.

20. Well, empress, in my neck of the woods...
which I like to refer to as "the rhinestone of the buckle of the bible belt," education includes religion and religion is politics. The fact that I'm hated by the present school board and superintendent is enough for them to work their butts off to see that I'm not elected.

When I finish my doctorate, after my son and I move to where ever it is that we end up, I will run. Hopefully, it will be a much more open society than the one in which we now live.

21. I agree with shoeempress...You should run!
Even if you don't get in, you will shake up that district. And it sounds to me as though it is RIPE for being shook up...And you will make it easier for another liberal to run, sometime in the future! I say: GO FOR IT! Those people need their asses kicked, and how!

26. My dear Maddy!
Sounds to me like you've already made your decision! GOOD FOR YOU! And I'm sure your son will be so proud of you; he'll see this (I suspect) as retribution for all the bad things he went through. After all, you'll be going (directly or indirectly) after those evil people in the school...Win or lose, you will be doing him a very good turn, plus making history in your conservative little town. And with the ACLU helping, you never know...even conservatives care about education. (I hope!)

Kick some serious ass! I mean it...
