What's your favorite souvenir?
I just got a Christmas souvenir from Williamsburg, VA. It's my favorite because I can put it up with my Christmas decorations every year. I love Christmas.

Edited on Fri May-20-05 07:28 PM by Longgrain
I stole..I mean, preserved it when no one was looking.

As well as a few other personal items other DUers gave me.

3. A small stone from the Grand Canyon
I drove there from the Bay Area for my 40th birthday - it was totally spontaneous. It was January, the canyon was gorgeous with a light dusting of snow, no one else was there and I felt like I'd finally figured it all out.

This is one of the trails I walked:

5. It was a beautiful trip
I've never felt so spiritually cleansed as I did on that one. I'd decided to just take a road trip but I had no destination in mind. I started driving and when I hit the Arizona border, realized I could get to the Grand Canyon which I'd never seen. I got there at 10 o'clock the morning of my 40th birthday. It was the most spectacular sight I've ever seen and I had it almost entirely to myself.

My 40th was the best birthday I've ever had.

7. I go to the christmas.com forums throughout the year
When they aren't talking about religious fundamentalism, it's a fun place. They have a daily countdown to Christmas and everything. I like to keep Christmas time special, so that's most of what I do off-season.

The souvenir I got from Williamsburg is a young colonist holding up a personalized "Merry Christmas, Matt" sign.

8. My favorite Christmas souvenir dates from my childhood...
Edited on Fri May-20-05 08:10 PM by CaliforniaPeggy
And that is one helluva long time ago! It is a tiny, wood deer that someone hand carved. I think that it is actually a fawn. It has a few little white dots on it, and I still hang it from its original hanger. It is exquisite...

9. This is going to seem a little strange, and anyway, I don't know if
it's a souvenir or a collector's item; but I have a Soviet-made padded fabric tanker's helmet. It's on a shelf in my bookroom perched on one of those green glass heads you can pick up at Pier 1. As an ex-tanker myself, I was interested in seeing how the other guy lived, so to speak. Anyway, that's it.

10. A little piece of pottery from Sussex ("Dicker Ware").
I found a little rust colored vase in an antique shop that someone had used as a pencil holder for decades. Truth be told, I have a few other favorites too. :hi:

over a lifetime. The beaches on Bimini are speckled with bits of
surf-worn glass. I have a jar-full on my kitchen windowsill. I scanned these a few years ago.

12. I don't know if this counts
Edited on Fri May-20-05 09:41 PM by Canadian Socialist
but I brought home a husband from my last visit to Peru. Also, a lovely alpaca, hand woven wall hanging. I'm still deciding which is my favourite.

Odds are on the wall hanging, BTW, if anyone is working up a pool.

14. A chunk of Hitler's garage....the evil bastard!
When I was in the service, I went to Berchtesgaden, where the "Berghof" was. It struck me how gorgeous the place was. I have never been to a place more beautiful. How such an evil fuck was allowed to do to that country what he did still amazes me. So, I took a chunk of what was left there.

It was a strange feeling, looking at the same view that Hitler did. I do not understand how someone could see something so beautiful, day after day, and carry such hatred.

Maybe, someday I will have a chunk of Bush's garage from Texas. In the meantime, a cement looking rock sits in my corner display shelf.
