1. Try Iams. They make great products for both dogs & cats with
different sensitivities. Actually, their regular foods are great for your pets as well. And no, I don't work for them!

11. Please avoid Iams
big GOP contributors-and the food has low quality, non human grade ingredients. The big price tag is due to their aggressive marketing campaign. They are also well known for abusing their lab animals. My vet strongly warns against both Iams and Eukanuba.

2. Science Diet Sensitive Stomach. If Toby could type, I'd have him tell you
about it, but you'll have to take my word for it. Before the Science Diet that cat barfed every single day. Since we've been feeding this stuff, he barfs once every 2-3 weeks or so. Honest to god. I couldn't believe it, but it's been about four months or so. It works.

5. really?
Sooty barfs a lot, but I thought that was because she has really thick fur and cleans herself often...lots o' hairballs

She really sheds like no other cat imaginable :o

8. It could be a combination of the hairballs & sensitive stomach
Toby horks up lots of hairballs, too, but his daily barfing was food. He still does hairballs but the food horking has decreased dramatically.

'Course, I don't know Sooty. (I'm not a vet, but I play one on TV AND I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night.) Try this food or a similar one, if you want, but if she'll tolerate more brushing, maybe that will do the trick.

Sooty's a great name for a cat, Zuni. :hi:

3. I've had good success with Science Diet Sensitive Skin and
Purina One for Sensitive Systems. My cat apparently developed an allergy to other dry cat foods so I feed him Purina One for Sensitive Systems and canned catfood.

7. Find a decent Small pet supply store
PetSmart/etc carry normal food and a little bit better quality food. We have a small pet store here that carries really good food which has helped control our cat and dog's allergies. All the food @ major stores has rice, soy or corn in it, cat and dog are allergic to these.

One problem with non-human quality byproducts food is that they sometimes add scents to make it smell yummy, leading to too fast eating and harking. Let the bag sit open for a while to air out if it is dry catfood.

We use Pinnacle, has oats and wheat and sweetpotato for starches and decent meat for meat. They all eat this and are doing fine. No allergy problems, no vomitting.

Vets can order decent food (1 told me of some made from kangaroo for the extrememly allergic animals, smells like fish) but get stuck on ScienceDiet and Iams, I'm always suspicious of kickbacks but then I'm cynical as well as uppity.

10. See this thread:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=243&topic_id=4388&mesg_id=4388

and go to www.waggintails.com-they have human grade brands for sensitive stomachs. Usually sensitive tummys develop when the pet has been fed the same brand day in and day out. By rotating several brands, your kitty will have fewer problems. You might try Prairie Nature's variety freeze dried or raw-the ingredients are a lot different than what's in most commercial pet foods.
