I Just Lost an Epic Battle with a Vending Machine

I live in student geared housing. So I go downstairs to the game room to get myself a snickers bar. 65 cents I bring with me. The candy bar gets stuck. I smack the machine, it wiggles a little. But no use, it won't give.

I go upstairs to my apartment, get another 65 cents, figuring two is better than none. I put the money in, one candy bar comes out, the one I wanted in the first place, the second one gets stuck. I recruit another kid in the game room to try to help me get it out, he smacks it, it wiggles a little, but won't come out.

Well now I'm mad. This place has ripped me off at every corner, and now they are ripping me off of my candy. So it's personal. I go back upstairs, just to prove a point that I will not be ripped off, get my last 65 cents (i'm completely broke now, no money at all, thank god I'm going home on sunday), go downstairs, put the money in. The second one comes out that I was trying to get last time. The third one is still in there, though. I have no way of getting it out, as I'm broke, and now I'm steaming.

On top of the 2,000 dollars this place has screwed me out of with their shoddy management, they took my 65 cents and my candy bar.

And I feel like a fool.

That's the last time you'll let a giant corporation squeeze you out of your last dollar for some food that is completely devoid of nutritional value.

Student housing is designed to screw you over. It builds character. That's why it costs so much. :-)

which from looking around, seems pretty much average for a one bedroom in minneapolis.

Coffee/cocoa machine. Put your money in. The change would shoot out of the return and as you were grabbing for it it would spit the cup out on to the floor and send your coffee/cocoa down the drain. Worked that way the whole time I was there and you couldn't bring outside food or beverages in so you had to put the money in while holding one hand over the coin return and very, very quickly drop the second hand down to keep the cup in place.

They had NW Bell stamped on the sanitary pads in the bathroom and if you worked there for ten years you could get off of split shifts on to straight shifts. Women could be operators or operator supervisors. All other jobs were held by men.

Oh and the creaky old elevator would intermittently take you down into one of two sub basements A or B or down into the tunnel (no lights) where the lines ran C and hold there for about 3 minutes for no discernable reason. We thought it was perhaps some kind of psychological conditioning.

Ah the good old days.

I may just go back down and try again.
