Digital Camera...Recommend one please for $200ish
Edited on Sat May-21-05 04:46 PM by masmdu
My Nikon Film camera has given up the ghost...on to digital.

Please recommend a digital camera for around $200 that :

-Has great image quality/lenses

-Is intuitive and easy to work with

-long battery life

-Good LCD/TTF screen

Come to think of it please tell me about the better photo printers as well

Thanks!

1. Try this site.
http://www.dpreview.com/

I've got a Canon SD300 and it's a fast great snapshooter with an excellent movie mode. But you won't find it for anything less than $325 is my guess. But surf around the reviews in DPReview. You'll find something meeting your specs.

2. The last one I bought wasn't digital, but I went to the library and
checked out the latest issue of Consumer Reports that had camera reviews. I've been completely satisfied with my selection based on their advice and I'll turn to them again soon with a digital purchase.

3. For pic quality, spend $70 extra and get a Fuji Finepix 550.
I prefer film and I hate commodity throwaway-in-2-year technotoys (except for cute internet stuff that would be fine with a 1MP camera), but that Fuji model is surprisingly good.

4. Well I just bought a digital
it's a Canon a510, not a bad little camera for a point and shoot. If you are looking for a professional camera you probably won't be able to get a new one for $200. But I love my Canon http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0007KQUP2/002-7035952-2664834?v=glance

5. there should be a nikon coolpix in that range
I like mine a lot, it takes nice pictures and the screen is nice. It's really easy to use. Mine isn't the best for battery life, but the new versions have rechargable lithuim ion batteries, so they should fdo much better in that area. It's nice and small, too.

Printer-wise, I have a Canon pixma, my best friend has a HP photosmart. They both print real good looking pictures. I think ine has the advantage on the price of ink, though. I'd pay extra for the LCD so you can review your pictures on the printer instead of your computer.

8. HP makes trash
HP scanners = WAY overpriced trash.

HP inkjet printers = die after short amount of use. A 3 year old high end wide-format inkjet died after a mediocre amont of use.

My Epson Stylus Photo 2200 that replaed it has printed out THREE TIMES as many pages and still works.

7. Well, I just posted one in the for sale group, but it's more than you
want to spend :(.

You can't really go wrong with any of the major brands. For cameras in that range, I'm really fond of the Olympus offerings. Nikon would be second on my list, followed by Sony and Canon.

Your best bet is to go to dpreview.com and stevesdigicams.com and read all the reviews :).

I wasn't offering it for sale here, I was actually making other suggestions.

So what do you mean "wrong place"? :)

Both on Olympus and stevesdigicams.com.

My Olympus Camedia 4000 is not available in stores, but can probably be purchased for around $200. Very good point and shoot, and a lot of settings for those who like to play around. One of the top 10 in several rankings of cameras up to twice its price.

Here's a link to some pictures taken with it: http://wedding.puppycharm.com/emmaspictures.html

Also both of these were taken with it:

10. Steve's Digi-cam is a great place to compare ...
I really like my Olympus C50 Zoom. maybe a bit more money though.

Check this site, one of the best around.

15. I just ordered the Canon Powershot A95 for my son-in-law
who graduates from UT this month. The camera is $256.94 at www.amazon.com and the Canon PIXMA iP3000 Photo Printer was $79.99, both with free shipping. However, if you buy them from amazon by May 31, you can get a $70 rebate. Both seemed to have really good reviews on amazon's site as well as www.epinions.com.
