Effing EFFING public transit!
Today, I was supposed to start work at 3:30pm.
I check with transit, they say, catch the w bus at x time, get off at y stop, wait 5 minutes, and z bus will be along.
As I am on bus w at x time, I see z bus go by.
Shit.
I cross the street, come back home, and check scheds again.
The next bus that can get me to work isn't for THREE hours.
It comes at 5:50.
I get to the stop at 5:45.
I wait at the stop until 6, then walk down to the main road watching for the bus the whole time. It is now 6:05.
No Bus.
The next bus? 11pm.
A cab to work is $20.
So, unscheduled day off for me.
But I'm pissed.
So I stopped at the local used book store on my walk home and picked up:
The Assassination of Trotsky
Marx and the Marxists
Anne of Windy Poplars
Mansfield Park

Cheered me up a little I guess.

1. hehe nice reading list.
That sucks about the bus. Public transit in most cities is royally lousy. Good mass transit one of the best things about Chicago.

3. thank you thank you
I mean, the transits usually good, I just think part of the problem is I work out in the middle of nowhere at the edge of the industrial wasteland...er...'park'.
Transit seems to assume that since the factories tend to close, no one else wants to get out there, Grr.

Buy a car. And don't be afraid to say 'fuck' on here. I would hate to have my source of transportation be the city bus or the train. I'm too independent for that. But I live in Hicksville, USA and I could never get around on public transportation.

4. No way!
I'm not afraid to say fuck, I just like saying 'eff' sometimes.

Public transit is USUALLY pretty good around here (see reply above)
Cars are incredibly expensive to buy and maintain, plus I don't have a drivers license, plus i just can't justify owning a car when I live fairly centrally with most of my needs very close to home. Hell, even my parents saw the light on their car use and cut it down to one fuel efficient vehicle, my dad takes the bus to work and my mum meets him there later, they share it when they need it throughout the day, but try to buy things more locally so they can just walk and pick up what they need (office supplies, etc)

booo to cars
