Hence the title. Yeah, I looked it up. I recall it was a kind of dreamy film with strong visuals and I think there was an exploding frog. And what I just wrote is not just because the condition under which I viewed it. :-)

"Reflecting Skin" is a great movie. There's not a single character in the film that doesn't have it coming, even the little boy in the lead. I wish it were on DVD, but I believe it's entirely out of print.

It's Alan Rudolph, isn't it? And it was quite a cast. I recall Genevieve Bujold and Keith Carradine, among others.

There were also some disturbing images in that film, which I won't give away here.

55. from imdb.com
Frustrated punk rocker Otto quits his supermarket job after slugging a co-worker, and is later dumped by his girlfriend at a party. Wandering the streets in frustration, he is recruited in the repossession of a car by a repo agent. After discovering his parents have donated his college fund to a televangelist, he joins the repossession agency (Helping Hand Acceptance Corporation) as an apprentice "repo man". During his training, he is introduced into the mercenary and paranoid world of the drivers, befriended by a UFO conspiracy theorist, confronted by rival repo agents, discovers some of his one-time friends have turned to a life of crime, is lectured to about cosmic unconsciousness by the repo agency grounds worker, and finds himself entangled in a web of intrigue concerning a huge repossession bounty on a 1964 Chevy Malibu driven by a lunatic government scientist. At the same time a package is taken from a government lab that has strange effects on anyone who sees it. It is hidden in the trunk of a that car which the government lists for reposession with a hefty reward.

241. Diuretics. It'll change you're life man.
J. Frank Parnell: Ever been to Utah? Ra-di-a-tion. Yes, indeed. You hear the most outrageous lies about it. Half-baked goggle-box do-gooders telling everybody it's bad for you. Pernicious nonsense. Everybody could stand a hundred chest X-rays a year. They ought to have them, too. When they canceled the project it almost did me in. One day my mind was full to bursting. The next day - nothing. Swept away. But I'll show them. I had a lobotomy in the end.
Otto: Lobotomy? Isn't that for loonies?
Parnell: Not at all. Friend of mine had one. Designer of the neutron bomb. You ever hear of the neutron bomb? Destroys people - leaves buildings standing. Fits in a suitcase. It's so small, no one knows it's there until - BLAMMO. Eyes melt, skin explodes, everybody dead. So immoral, working on the thing can drive you mad. That's what happened to this friend of mine. So he had a lobotomy. Now he's well again.

10. "Bulletproof Heart"
A movie from 1983 or 1984, I think. I was bored one night back when I was young, and I stayed up watching premium cable movies. There was nothing else to watch, and I was insomnia mode, so I watched that. It was a pretty middling-level romance/suspense thriller type of flick.

As a fan of the apocalyptic genre, I can say without a doubt, it's the best "end of the world" movie ever made.

I push it on everyone I meet... I think it's one of the best, most touching studies of humanity ever. It should be placed in time capsules and shot into deep space.

146. Oof. Cheeses.
On a similar note, I saw that movie with a pretty messed up guy that a roommate of mine had dragged home one night from that McDonalds at 14th & K Street, NW DC (the same night she set fire to a placemat in the same McDonalds).

As time went on, I tried to be as friendly as I could be to him, but he was pretty much a goner. I took some photos of him so he could give them to his estranged father. He later developed a very obnoxious crush on my girlfriend of the time.

Last I heard from him was when he called from St. Elizabeth's, to which he had been committed following a failed suicide attempt. His next attempt succeeded.

Alas, poor Martin. I still have your pictures.

77. Blockhouse (1973) starring Peter Sellers as a French slave-laborer
for the Nazis in WWII. He and his 5 or 6 comrades are trapped in an enormous underground storage facility in 1944. They have enormous quantities of food, but only enough candles to provide light for a few months. They remain imprisoned for nearly 6 years and, one by one, die from madness, loneliness or insanity.

Incredibly, the story is supposed to be based on a true story.

I bellieve it (about the unstoppable party animal).
I really emjoyed "The Kingdom." Many similarities to "Twin Peaks," of course, and that was just one of the things to recommend it.

Bjork is having some ongoing feud with Lars von Trier, unless they've patched it up. From what I read in some old Index mag, though, patching that up sounds less than possible.

But I'm not sure if I can ever watch it again.

Kind of like Graveyard of the Fireflies. I watched it, then bought the DVD also about four years ago, but have yet to watch it. A friend and I tried to watch it last summer, and about 10 minutes in I told him we can't watch it any more, it was making me way too sad, and also freaking me out because it was bringing up too many memories of 9-11.

Two Canadian movies...

"Hard Core Logo", is a mockumentary about a legendary Canadian punk band who reform years alter and go on a fundraising Western Canada reunion tour. Hilarious and tragic. Tarantino bought eh US distribution rights to this movie, but I don't believe it was ever released in the US.

"Cube" is a psycho-thriller about a group of people who awake to find themselves trapped in a giant maze made of identical cubic rooms. They need to find a way out of the maze before they starve to death, but some of the rooms are boobytrapped with high-tech and undetectable killing machines, while other rooms are safe...

I haven't seen that film for years, but I can still remember the dialogue and the fact that both lead characters were runners, which has added significance as the film reaches its conclusion.

"What are these?"

"Steel springs."

"What are they going to do?"

"Hurl me down the track."

"How fast can you run?"

"As fast as a leopard."

"How fast are you going to run?"

"As fast as a leopard."

And the Devil (or IS it the Devil?) chases them all the way from Thunder Bay to New Orleans, wreaking mayhem all the way.

I love the scene where the Devil, short of money, goes into the bingo hall and wins game after game of bingo, wads of cash, and a macramé plant hanger, which he unceremoniously chucks in the garbage on his way out.

One of my favorite films!

Very low-key film about a German retiree who takes a liking to zydeco music. The American characters are, to a person, depicted as generous, open, and warm-hearted.

Peter Greenaway movies seem to me like extended gorgeous puzzle-box tests. I don't like all of the cloying visual elements, and all the Michael Nyman music can either work or really work your nerves, but the guy's stuff is worth a try.

I guess I preferred "A Zed and Two Noughts."

Great classic foreign film. Of course it has a wonderful sentimental value for me. My hubby was a theater arts/journalism major in colleage when we met, and he took all these film classes. I would go to the classes with him because they would show these wonderful old black and white movies. We watched The Bicycle when we were first dating. Sigh.:loveya: Yeah, he's a far left liberal, and I'm so lucky!

Mrs Westinghouse orders some nuclear missiles to be launched against the saboteurs, but they manage to avoid the impact and even succeed in exposing a big secret of hers.

I saw an Iranian film recently that was very interesting--about a common soldier (not a Revolutionary Guard, just a plain old grunt) assigned to escort a woman vote registrar on an obscure island. Their journey through contemporary Iran and his gradual awakening of consciousness was the subject, and extremely well done!

Wish I could remember the name... it's available on DVD. (Big help, I know...)

392. "All Over the Guy", "Love & Sex" and "The Sex Monster"
The first, "All Over the Guyis a great romantic comedy where this straight couple try to setup their best friends. Just happens to be both are best friends with a gay man and these 2 gay men have absolutely nothing in common. It's a heartwarming comedy that I love watching everytime it's on HBO.

Second, Love & Sex has Famke Jenson and Jon Favreau who play this couple that you watch through how they met, throughout their relationship and what happens afterwards. It's wonderfully written and plays on HBO alot and I love watching it. I think Famke is a great, underrated actress.

Finally movie, another one you see on HBO alot, is The Sex Monster. Mike Binder (who also wrote and directed it) plays this somewhat sexist husband who keeps bugging his wife for a threeway with another woman. Mariel Hemingway plays the wife and she's really against a 3-way until finally her husband breaks her down and she ends up enjoying it more with the woman than she does with her husband. Basically she becomes this sex-crazed woman having sex with all sorts of women including her husband's secretary and a client's wife. It sounds like a dirty movie, but it really isn't. It's just funny in the sense that so many men in this world try to get their girlfriends/wives to have 3-ways, what happens if the girlfriend/wives end up liking women more then men. Probably the last film Stephen Baldwin did before he became a fundie. He was pretty funny as a real sexist pig

398. Liquid Sky and Out of the Blue
Two lesbians and vaginas that turn orgasms into diamonds. The memorable line. "I kill them with my cunt" A very funny aluminum foil wrapped spaceship. The theatre had hundreds of other people watching (Boston) but I don't know if it was ever shown again.

I also have never heard anyone else say they have seen Out of the Blue, with Dennis Hopper and I believe Tatum O'Neil. :applause:

399. I saw both- Liquid sky once and Out of the Blue five times.
(Welcome to DU, btw)!! :hi:

Out of the blue was spooky enough for me to rent it several times, just in case I'd missed something. That isn't Tatum O'Neal but another actress who was in "Paris, Texas". It was realisitic and very stark.

Out of the blue completely freaked me out. Great film. Of course you've seen My Life as a Dog?

401. Of course!
And the trying to negotiate one's "way" out of a Coke bottle?

Yes- Out of the Blue freaked me out, and of course there was the end of the movie. I liked all the scenes where she was with her best friend, who seemed to be mute most of the time, but they had an attachment not really explained. I liked the mystery.

407. Eerie and original
very good screenplay. And acting. The daughter was especially haunting. The way she made up the nightmarish "journal" she read. I liked the characters. Damaged but strong and hopeful.

404. Rancho Deluxe -- the first (and only) true modern western
It headlined the American Film Institute's "Sleepers of the 70s" back in 1980.

Stars Jeff Bridges, Sam Waterson, Slim Pickens, Harry Dean Stanton, Elizabeth Ashley and others. Soundtrack by Jimmy Buffett, written by Tom McGuane, set in the Montana mountains.

The only video I have ever purchased. Started me on my life of crime early on ...
