What's the cheapest way between Philly and DC?

Are there any alternatives to buses? Commuter rails?

1. Amtrak has service between Philly and DC.

There is no direct commuter rail other the Amtrak.

I guess I might have to pony up the $48 and do it that way. Seems like a better deal than $25 for a more than twice as long ride on greyhound.

the philly craigslist might be a good place to start

surely there are tons of people going back and forth every day that would love for you to buy them gas.

5. Bus service in ethnic chinese neighborhoods.

Seriously, look for signs in Chinatown, there are busses that cater to the asian community, fares in the single-digits, 6 or 7 dollars.

6. I've had some bad experiences with them recently

not to mention that their buses have a bad habit of...blowing up.

I might go that route, but I'd like to avoid it if possible.
