Anyone been on an Alaskan cruise?
Wife and I are considering last-minute cruise for 10th anniversary. Would have to leave sons home and want to make sure we would not regret it.

Anyone been on one and any regrets?

1. A friend of mine
went on one last year or the year before and loved it. We drove the AlCan twice, both ways and Alaska is an experience not to be missed.

2. 7 years ago.
Loved every minute of it. Your only regret will be not taking you sons.

7. Ha. Thanks
That kind of "guilt" is exactly what we're worried about...

4. I went and had a great time
It was on the Princess Cruise. The icebergs were awesome. I didn't have the nerve to take the helicopter ride and land on one, my companion did and she loved it. My next trip is on The Orient Express through the Northwest. Do go. You won't regret it.

6. Go!
We went when I was a kid. The weather in Alaska was kinda dismal, dreary and sprinkling the whole time, but what landscape!!! Just make sure you understand what you're getting and you won't be disappointed. If you've never been on a cruise before, understand that you won't get much time in each town and will be shuttled towards the tourist traps, but again, the scenery is unbelievable.

8. yep loved it
I went kayaking with my daughter. We saw seals very close up. Neither of us are experienced kayakers, but they helped us with everything. We got back last but will never forget it. Loved the glaciers too. We went on the side trip to Denali and Fairbanks on the dome train. That was great too. If you don't expect sunshine in Juneau, you'll love it too. Go on the whale watching trip. Fantastic.

9. You will NOT regret it!
GO! GO GO GO GO GO GO GO!!!!!!

I went on one a few years, and I'd go again in a heartbeat. It was splendid! Wonderful!! And a much tamer crowd than on those damned carribean cruises - the Alaskan cruise is mostly retired people.

:-)

And, unlike a carribean cruise, you are only away from shore for one day - the rest of the time, you are travelling through incredible forests, amazing mountains, glaciars, whales, fish, moose, bear. We just sat on the deck most of the day and watched nature go by, and were NEVER bored with it.

But then, we are all nature lovers, so your mileage may vary.

10. Great Cruise
Alaska is wonderful. Look into a tie-in with a trip to Denali if possible. Either way it will be a great trip. There are places in Alaska without names that would be national parks in the lower 48.

Hope you can go. Have fun.

11. Definitely take the cruise, you'll love it.
I haven't been on any of the cruises, just the ferries, but you won't regret coming up here. It's absolutely stunningly beautiful. It's true that you might run into some rain in June and July, but I think you'll still have a good experience. For anyone thinking of coming up here in the future, you should know that, overall, our sunniest weather is in May and September, but the past few summers have been really outstanding and much drier than we used to get back in the old days, i.e., the '70s.

Here are a few pictures of the area around Anchorage, where I live...
