I can't even remember the last time I did that.

Edit: Here's a good definition.

This would have been the mid-late 70s I'm recalling; do people even do that nowadays?

And does anyone else remember buying anything via 'mail-order' and paying with stamps? I got some veggie seeds when I was a kid from a company that had their order form marked "cash, money order, or stamps"...

5. In public schools, parents have to supply them

if they want their child's last report card mailed to them. Otherwise, they can pick the reports up from the school office.
