Where does dirt come from?
How does it accumulate?

Following Hurricane Ivan (last September) I had to turn off the main water valve at the street so some plumbing repairs could be made. There's an 8" X 15" box in the ground. I flipped up the lid and saw nothing but dirt. After digging around I uncovered the meter and the valve. After I turned off the water, I cleaned all the dirt out of the box.

Yesterday I had to turn the water off again. More plumbing stuff. I flipped open the lid and the box is full of dirt again. Are worms THIS active? Where's all this dirt come from? If we humans didn't move around would we be buried alive?

It's a puzzlement.

5. Mine usually gets rearranged by runoff from rain and sprinklers
Sometimes it's from an ant colony. Inside I blame the dirt faeries that sprinkle it about when I'm sleeping.

11. If you leave crumbs on the counter over night that sometimes helps
I think it works like an offering or something. You know, like cookies for Santa. :)

12. Well, I wouldn't say I leave crumbs out for them...
...but usually there is a nice selection of crumbs available at any one time.

Wanna come eat at my house now? :P

6. If box is partly buried in the ground...
depending on the surrounding suface the box, the dirt could be carried in by rain runnoff.

Light Dirt -- that gravitates to dark things.

16. Lots of interesting and imaginative ideas.
And I'm not completely serious about finding an answer.
But the box is next to a stand of pampas grass, fairly high elevation.
Last September I cleaned it out, and now the valve and meter were covered again.

Does this have anything to do with the rapture?
