I'm miserable! I can't hug and kiss my ferrets!
I have a cold and I don't want to give it to them. It is hard knowing that they are in the other room playing, and I can't be in there with them. They are so cute, that it's impossible not to cuddle and kiss them. Sigh. This is the worst thing about being sick.

1. I don't think you can give them a human cold
not many diseases pass to dogs, cats, etc.

Pigs are different.

2. My vet told me a long time ago not to be around
them when I'm sick. Apparently ferrets are really succeptible to anything. They are very hardy on the outside, but they have very sensitive systems on the inside.

4. ferrets are susceptible to human respiratory viruses like colds....
Strange, but true.

5. speaking of ferrets
I was my neighborhood Walgreens and as I made my way to the back of the store, I saw a baby ferret coming towards me, it stopped and ran back the way it came. All I could hear was the staff trying to catch it when I left. Cute as hell too.

7. Oh No! I hope someone can catch it!
Ferrets have no homing instinct and will not hunt for themselves. A loose ferret will almost surely die if not caught.

9. Do they sell pets there?
or did someone's pet get out of their jacket in the store? Hope the poor little guy didn't get out of the store - at least in the store, it has a chance of getting food and water until someone can catch it.

8. It's a pity colds are zoonotic
and ferrets are so susceptible. How can you not kiss them on their pointy little noses?

I want carpet sharks in the worst way, but my husband's being stubborn. He thinks three gigantic cats, a huge iguana, two adults, two hugely oversized teenagers and their assorted useless hangers-on is enough in a 1200-sf house. Spoilsport!

10. There's always room for ferrets!
The problem is, you start out with one, and you have more before you know it! I miss my little stinkies so bad, but I would rather they not be sick. I know how miserable I am, and I don't want my little rabies babies to suffer too. Maybe your husband will warm up to the idea of ferrets once the kids have moved out. I will warn you though, they poop a LOT!
