Just found a signed letter from Joe McCarthy from 1952
in an old book I got at a flea market ages ago, and am just now going over. What a trip. On Senate letterhead. Thanking some woman for her campaign contributions.

What should I do with it?

Can I sell it? Or is that too mercenary of me?

1. I'd keep it (historical value) and find out about how to get it
framed w/o messing it up. Is it in good condition?

3. yeah, appears to be in great condition, aside from gentle paper
wear at folds.

Fascinating, really. It was in a book called "McCarthy and His Enemies" by William Buckley Jr. and L. Brent Bozell. Lol.

I just wonder if there are any memorabilia collectors who'd be interested...

9. Yep, then it wouldn't be something neo-cons would want...
sell it to a die hard liberal with lots o' cash. I'll google it and see what the market is like.

5. Would be good to get an assessment of its value from someone
who knows something about this.

That is an interesting find, though. I think it would be cool to keep it just for historical value, but that's just me.

7. I suppose I should do some research to find someone who
could appraise it.

My husband is a pack-rat and I am not, I don't hold on to too many things, though we both have thousands of books and my inclination is to rarely resell my books... while I find it interesting, if someone else is an avid collector, I'd consider letting it go.

2. You could try to sell it
to Ann Coulter. She'd probably soak her jockstrap over McCarthy memorabilia!!!

6. Flaxbee! Keep it!
But if you want to sell it, please PM me. I suggest you have it appraised, and I'll see if I can meet the price.

I am a history freak. :hi:

11. Hiya bertha!
How're you doing this evening? :hi:

It looks like I'll be doing some investigation... do you know anyone in the DC area who might be good at this sort of thing? I'm guessing DC would be a good place to start, seeing as it's old Congressional memorabilia.

12. I can't sleep, but I'm about to head off to try again.
I googled political memorabilia appraisal but didn't really find much there. I can ask around at work (big farkin' law firm). I'll PM you tomorrow.

'night

14. Senate Letterhead? Campaign Contributions?
are you thinking what I'm thinking?

was this the time before campaign committees? is there a statute of limitations for...what's that called when you use taxpayer money to fund campaign materials?

17. Call up Anne Coulter, she'd probably buy it, then sign her check over to
Al Franken for shits and giggles. I'm sure he'd love to have a check from Anne in his next book :)
