How do you make sure someone on your ignore list
can't send private messages? I have very few on my ignore list, but if I'm going to ignore them, I might as well do so thoroughly.

1. You take them off ignore...
...ask them to send you a private message, put them on ignore again, and see if it worked.

2. It's automatic
You cannot receive PM's from someone on your ignore list. DO NOT antagonize someone by testing this with an on/off method.

But be assured that if someone is on your ignore list, they CANNOT PM you.

5. Really? I had vetwife on ignore and she sent me a PM.
Obviously this was BEFORE she was /ignored by DU. I'm proud to say I've been spot-on with my ignore list on a few different occasions. :D

So, how the hell did vetwife get a PM through, then??? I never read it...it's still sitting in my inbox.

6. How long was she on ignore before the PM?
It could have been sent before you did that, and the inbox indicator CAN lag at times.

There have also been times where bugs or things are being worked on, and things aren't in perfect working order. It may have been a fluke glitch. Also, remember during times of heavy traffic where our ignore lists were disabled? Maybe it was one of those times.

But truthfully, I have had people PM me and ask why I have one of their friends on ignore, because that friend was trying to PM me, and got a message saying it couldn't be done. That is rude... it is no one's business why I have anyone on ignore.

7. It had been at least a few days...a week??
>That is rude... it is no one's business why I have anyone on ignore.

Yeah, sometimes personalities just clash. I have--what?--six people on ignore. I just went and deleted vetwife because she isn't here anymore.

I believe that the message got through during one of those times when bandwidth was at a premium and Skinner and company had to cut down on features...that's probably it.

Thanks for the info. And by the way, gotta love those Zomby hugs. You're one of my faves, Mr. Woof. :D

and they make a cross with their fingers and scream "Ignoring you! Ignoring you!" Come on Maggie, you know I didn't mean to hurt you when I set fire to your car!

9. Also notice...
At the bottom of your PM, you can click that link that says "Block Correspondence from this Member (Ignore)" or something like that. :-)

please don't post my private messages in public anymore

it took me two hours to convince the mods it needed to be taken down, when one email from you could have done the trick in two minutes

Please feel free to send me a PM if you have any other technical questions tonight, but DU rules prohibit discussions about putting another member on ignore as well as posting actual correspondence from another member, mod or admin. Please do not post any more threads of this nature. Relevant section of DU Rules, for reference:

"Do not say that you are using our ignore feature to block a particular member. Do not say that you are hitting the alert link to report another member.

Do not "stalk" another member from one discussion thread to another. Do not follow someone into another thread to try to continue a disagreement you had elsewhere. Do not talk negatively about an individual in a thread where they are not participating. Do not post messages with the purpose of "calling out" another member or picking a fight with another member."
