Weekly Dallas Cowboys thread
Dallas received a good lesson this weekend in their loss to Tampa. They're an improved club, but not ready for the big time.

The next two games are at home - Washington and Buffalo. I still think these games are winnable, but what has happened to the psyche of this young team? When Cundiff missed the field goal to go up 3 - o, you could almost see the air come out of this team. They're so young; I believe that this Sunday's game against Washington will show us where their minds are.

This is still, in my opinion, a 9 and 7 team in a very watered down NFL. If they stay healthy, and play smart football, I can see them being a wild card team. Philly is still the team to beat, and I believe they'll win the east. But if Dallas is a wildcard team, look out for all sorts of possibilities next year. According to Stephen Jones, the Boys are in good cap shape and can bring in a couple of impact players for the 2004 season.

And by the way, Parcells is at this point the coach of the year in the NFL. He has really been an excellent teacher and motivator for such a young, inexperienced team.

1. Dick Vermiel isn't?
The Chiefs are 8-0, sure he turned the Cowboys around somewhat but there is still a long road ahead of them.

2. I said at this point, and Vermeill has done a good job
And with much more talent. If Dallas is 6 and 2, that will be a huge feat.

4. I agree much more talent
But the only team they really beat who had more talent was the struggling Philadelphia Eagles. I can't believe all of this Parcells worship (not by you but pretty much everyone) after 7 games.

5. In the last three years, not many teams have had the losing mentality

of the Cowboys. If this team makes the playoffs, it will be a herculian accomplishment. And as you have stated, there are no gimme games anymore. It is very hard to determine who are "quality" opponents anymore.

Whoops, part of this statement was meant for the post below.

16. You are overrating this "losing mentality"
The Rams had a decade of loosing seasons then went 4-12, next year they win the Super Bowl. Same with the Titans, they were 4-12 and went on to face the Rams in the Super Bowl. Plus alot of the players weren't with the team the years they went 5-11 the last years. The Chargers last year went 4-0 and didn't make the playoffs, the Cardinals went 4-2 last year and didn't make the playoffs, I can give you a thousand examples. If the Cowboys do make the playoffs, whoopdedoo, they still have to win 4 games(3 if they have one of the top 2 records in the NFC) to be crowned champions.

26. My goodness - it is "whoopdedoo" if you're a Cowboy fan
And this team can win 4 games if they can keep focused. You don't think that a team with all of the question marks they had at the beginning of the year making the playoffs is a big deal? You bet your sweet patooey it is.

If you read about how undisciplined this team was and how it had accepted the "loser mentality," then you would know it's a big deal. Emmitt Smith pretty much hit it on the head when he said he felt like a "diamond among trash." This team was pathetic, and Parcells is making some of these "trash" players into something decent.

17. Dick Vermeill is a certified genius.
He's turned every team he has coached into a winner. The man is a genius!

18. I agree
He turned a 4-12 team into Super Bowl champs and look at what he has done with the Chiefs. I feel bad for the Bills, I thought they would end KC's winning streak.

And that is why The Bills got their asses handed to them, they were totally outcoached.

3. It Was A Good Loss
Tampa finally played up to their caliber of defense last year even minus Brian Kelly and John Lynch. They were awesome on defense.

On the offensive side of the ball they established the run, something that Dallas tried and tried but failed to do against them.

I think it qualifies as a good loss for the Cowboys. They now know what it is like playing against a championship caliber defense and hopefully will figure out what changes need to be made should they face that again.

I have to agree with Vermontdem...I'd pick Vermeil over Parcells as Coach of the Year. I mean anyone who can overcome all the self-defeat that has infected the Chiefs for years needs some mad props!

7. Oh, bless your heart
Another rant from someone who can't interject anything of substance about the Cowboys. Don't worry friend - your next superbowl will be in a few weeks when Dallas comes to Philly. Cheer up - maybe a Cowboy will be seriously injured and you and all of your buddies can have a good laugh. Or the Cowboy charter may crash and burn with no survivors - now that would be a hoot!

12. PUL-LEASE
You guys are lucky cause you're playing a weak schedule vs. our team which is going up against a much stronger one. I'll give you that last game because lets face it - that was a boneheaded decision on that onside kick. But I'll take my Eagles any day over the Cowpussies. Not that many rapists and dope fiends on the Eagles team!!!!

13. Oh, here we go again "rapists and dope fiends"
Nope, none of that anywhere else. Nowhere, no how. Cowboys are evil. Everyone else are saints.

Did you notice this was a thread on the Cowboys? But you came along to bash. Right back at ya.

Remember this - YOUR TEAM WILL NEVER, EVER WIN THE BIG ONE! And that's what eats at your bitter core. Your superbowl has always been played twice a year - in Dallas, and in your city when Dallas comes to town.

Again, you can only hope. It's nice to cheer a paralyzed player on the field when he's a Cowboy. It's okay to wish for a team's charter to crash (read that on an Eagle's message board).

If you would have read the initial post, I predicted that Philly would still win the east. Did you read that, or did your "hate Dallas hysteria" get the best of you? There is no thought process with Dallas haters - all objectivity is usually thrown out the window. Continue to hate, and obsess. I'll worry about the team I pull for.

14. Oh please, we have better rivalries than with the Cowsuckers
We find them amusing at best. We have more excitement when we're playing one of the local teams like the Giants or DC since this is a true battle of the region. They should have moved Dallas to another division when they did the realignment but people were still harping on those old rivalries.

Dallas isn't going to the superbowl. When they played a real team, like Tampa Bay - they folded. Get off your high & mighty attitude that our 'superbowl' is when we play the cowcreeps. That's so yesterday's news.

22. Same as "dope fiends and rapists"
Talk about yesterday's news.

I love talking to Cowboy haters. When I discuss successes, I get responses such as "they're all druggies" or "they're all criminals." It's like when I talk to my Republican friends about the accomplishments of the Clinton administration - "but he had relations with a White House intern." No substance.

And that's total BS about Philly having bigger rivalries. Many Philly fanatics say that the Cowboy game in Philly is the biggest event of the year.

High and mighty? I didn't start bashing any team until you came along. And I ask again, did you read the initial post? I'm predicting the Eagles to win the east again this year. Your hysteria has gotten the best of you.

High and mighty? 8 superbowl appearances and 5 wins. Pretty damn good. And Philly?

When Dallas was more successful. People have tended to lessen they're bile when Dallas was losing more than winning. Now it's back to where it started.

Obsessing a little perhaps? How are those niners doing, by the way? You see, I don't follow them. I am only concerned about how the team I'm pulling for is doing.

5 and 2 in the playoffs, buddy.

8. Sports radio.
I listen to a bunch of sports radio here in Dallas and noone thinks that the 'Boys were a bona fide 5-1 team, so the loss to Tampa Bay didn't come as a surprise to me. I wish they had played better (especially our running game). But I have confidence in Parcells and I think he will use this as a learning tool.

The only Cowboy I was disappointed in was Daryl Johnston. I had no idea that he talked so much during a broadcast. Daryl, here are a couple words of wisdom for you: SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP!!!!

9. AMEN TO THAT! Moose does seem to talk too much
Yes, no one in this market (or anywhere else for that matter) could see the Cowboys where they are now. Many predicted that they would win only five games (or less). Hence, Parcells has done the best job in football to this point.

Keeping my fingers crossed for a 9 and 7 record (or higher). In today's NFL, anything is possible.

He won 8 games and lost 0 for the team, Parcells won 5 games with a weaker schedule.

25. Basically agree...not sure how far Parcells can take them
They just don't have the talent yet, but they do have a good coach, and they are, for the most part, playing with inspiration.

It's a sign of a great coach, which many people don't want to admit he is.
