1. I know part of this answer.
University of Southern California, head coach was John McKay and one of the backs was Sam "Bam" Cunningham. IIRC, their first game was @ Alabama and Bear Bryant. I believe that game is credited with opening Bryant's (and the 'Bama alumni's) eyes about the recruitment of black players.

Um, this was 1969 or 1970 - thereabouts anyway.

3. Are we talking Division I-A? Or smaller colleges?
I'm sure historically black schools like Grambling, Jackson State and Prairie View had all-black backfields almost from day 1.

I'm just saying

http://www.aaregistry.com/african_american_history/852/First_allBlack_backfield_in_Division_1_college_football

When the Trojans went down to the deep South, they were the first fully integrated team to play in Alabama. An all-Black backfield of quarterback Jimmy Jones, running back Clarence Davis, and fullback Sam “Bam” Cunningham led Southern Cal.

First all-Black backfield in Division 1 college football

On this date in 1970, John McKay and his University of Southern California Trojans beat Bear Bryant's Alabama Crimson Tide, the final score: USC 42, Alabama 21. That USC-Alabama game remains one of the most proclaimed in college athletics, forever changing college football.

For triple bonus points WHAT ARE THE THREE NICKNAMES?

I'm going to take a smoke break so it will be a few minutes before I can check in.

31. Plainsmen, tigers and War eagles
all apply to Auburn, but any Auburn fans on the board will point out that War Eaglesis not actualy a mascot but a cheer. It has something to do with an eagle flying in a circle above the stadium of some other crazy Alabama stuff like that. All I know for sure is LSU 31 - Auburn 7.

40. You are correct.
t is War Eagle or War Damn Eagle or WDM. It refers to a game when an eagle soared over the field and then landed. It was a portend of good fortune for the team that day and now is a cheer that rises up to bring back the luck. War Eagle is not actually a mascot.
