I ran over a snake with my van.
I turned around and went back to make sure it was out of its misery, but it was gone. It was a beaut, too-- musta been about six feet long, and a good five or six inches around. No way to miss it-- it was raining hard, and I didn't see it until I was practically on top of it. I know I hit it dead center (so to speak).

Snake or not, I hope it isn't suffering.

1. My grandfather would tell you good job
He hated snakes and every time he would see one on his farm he would shoot it. Even if it was a harmless garter snake.

4. Big.
Way too dark to tell with my poor eyes. Looked kinda camo-greenish to me.

11. Could it have been a rattlesnake?
There aren't many snakes in the U.S. that get that big around. Black snakes, king snakes, that sort of snake can get six feet long, but six inches in diameter? If it was a rattlesnake it's probably just as well.

I normally don't kill snakes because most of them are non-poisonous, they eat rodents, and generally it's a bad idea to kill things just for the hell of it. A huge rattlesnake, though? Hard to mourn for that...

12. I'm of the opinion that everything here has its own purpose.
Call it anything you like-- I simply don't believe we have a right to simply squash anything that may be in our path at the moment.

Okay, there's one exception-- the Republican. Kill 'em all. They're a waste of skin, and they're sucking up all my oxygen.

5. I ran over one the other day
right in rush hour traffic. It was absolutely the last place I expected to see a snake and it made me feel like crap. I know what you mean about not wanting it to suffer.

8. Good. Go back and see if it had any friends.
The only good snake is a dead snake. I hate the little beasties; they've scared me since I was a kid.

14. One time, way out at our shack in the country . . .
. . . there was a snake curled up in a hole in a tree. Me and my friend threw firecrackers and smoke bombs in the hole till it came out. It did come out and crawl up the tree. My dad shot it in the head with a .22 rifle.

I don't feel too bad because it was close to the shack, big and scary. But we maybe could have left it alone with no problem.
